Can an American Theocracy and an Islamic Theocracy find common ground
Just a random thought.

In an odd sort of way, it seems possible that two autocratic, faith based governments would agree to co exist in an after life "mutual annihilation" stand off like the earth bound cold war of US/Soviet history....

Strange tale that would be.

1. Doubtful, but if the Nation of Islam can host American Nazi Party
delegates due to the common goal of separate white and black nations, I suppose anything is possible.

4. yeah, it's that "standoff" thing that puzzles me. I picture a story called
"Thin Ice" where the skaters are from "opposed" camps, yet all see the faces of the dead attributed to their roles beneath the clear ice......something like that. It was a tangent. Thks for the post.

3. Sure: They can agree on the color of blood spilt on the ground.
Religions have been agreeing on that for millenia.

5. The United States is NOT an autocracy or a theocracy
Edited on Sun May-16-04 05:26 PM by Bombtrack
It is just idiotic and dishonest to rationalize in this whole "we're no better" world view.

What affect do our religious nuts have. They're laughed at and ignored by the mainstream. The most noteworthy things they do are out telletubbies. The most secular and free Arab Islamic countries, Qatar and Jordan are still a hundred times more theocratic and autocratic than the United States that has no established or establishment of religion and has an amendment protecting us from congress from making laws respecting such an establishment.

Yeah, we're living under the worst president in a hundred years but you know what if the election that will be held in 5 months was held today we'd have a new president. That's democracy. And yeah I know he stole it because our freedom of press allowed me to find out about it.

Other countries are more free and more under far better executive control than America but it's still one of the top 10 or 15 freeest and least corrupt countries in the world, unlike ANY middle eastern countries other than Israel, which itself probably isn't in the top 15 or 20, but close to that.

6. Fundies are jonesing
for Armageddon and Muslim nutballs crave martyrdom and a harem of virgins. I'm sure they can work out something mutually satisfactory. But the rest of us who get dragged along won't like it one bit.

8. fundies and jihadists
they're the same people, really, two sides of the same coin. Both bogged down in hate - hate for women, for gays, for freedom - and wrapped in a little package of righteousness. Bah.

7. Christianity and Islam ARE Judaism
Edited on Sun May-16-04 05:36 PM by Must_B_Free
In a great big broad sense.

Judaism is the original conjob. Christianity, Islam and Mormonism are all following the lead of that con and trying to trump it with their own all new con job.

Judaism - Original "we are chosen" cult
Judaism => Christianity Trump (reawakening of values)
Judaism => Christianity Trump => Islam Trump
Judaism => Christianity Trump => Protestant Reformation Trump (reawakening)
Judaism => Christianity Trump => Mormon Trump
Judaism => Christianity Trump => Mooonie Trump

Hindu = Rig Vedas - Songs of Cultural transmission
Hindu => Buddhism Reawakening of Original Hindu Values

Early Judaism and Hindu not so far off in resembelence of styles. For example, Lillith is a man/animal hybrid type creatue. Other contemporaries - Sumerian, Akkadian - also man /animal hybrids.

Not sure on Egyptian, Greek relative to this picture. Let's see
Judaism is rooted in Egyptian Bondage...
Greece had gods and that mythology, but also pure logical philosophy.

It's interesting if you examine the styles of these mythologies that are vehicles of cultural transmission across generations. At one time, mixture with man/animal hybrid symbology is completely run of the mill, but after the Greek logic got in to the picture, that stuff just wasn't marketable anymore.

In all it relies on the tendency of men to act like lemming and follow the crowd. Once they see others adopting something it all of a sudden "passes the smell test", no matter how unreasonable it is.
