An American, a Vietnamese, and a Laotian were sitting in a bar...
Edited on Sun May-16-04 05:36 PM by bransonfu
actually, that was the situation last night. I have a Vietnamese friend who's an engineer at a semiconductor company (he's married to a Japanese woman), a Laotian computer science/IT guy (he's married to a Chinese woman), and we were all out to dinner and drinks last night and talked about politics.

All 3 of our wives are in various stages of waiting for citizenship (my wife is also Chinese) and I am hacked off specifically because my wife did the whole English language, US History, Civics testing last summer in June and was told she'd get a notice of appt for citizenship oath ceremony. Well, 11 months later and several letters along...no word. Still in FBI background according to them.

I think Bush knows the majority of incoming citizens are going to vote against him so they are purposefully holding up a bunch.

Anyway, the engineer guy works with a lot of GOP idjits and loves to p!ss them off talking against Bush, but HE'S never voted. Neither has the other quiet guy who works for a school system.

Well, we all agreed that Bush must go and they really are going to register to vote this year. Add them to my former conversion of my NASCAR-loving, Truck-driving Tennessee brother. He's all set and has even contributed $$ to DU now. Hi coondawg. :)

What is my point? Well, we were also overheard by many people as we made jokes about Bush and company. (Like Bush is gay and that's why he opposes marriage of them folks). Several laughed. Maybe we offended, maybe we sparked thought.

But I just thought I would share how diverse the hate and utter contempt for this administration is.

1. Hey There! I Also Disrespect Bush Loudly In Public...
not nasty... just sarcasm.

But then I live on eastern Long Island, New York and it's pretty liberal here.

Let me say hello to your brother,

:hi: coondog!

2. good for you. we need to stand up and defend dem platforms. my husband
and we usually don't miss an opportunity to call people on their RW talking points. they can never hold their own when you talk back to them. a couple facts and it sends them running.

I've converted a couple people and it feels good because I know they are out there spreading the truth about * too.

3. Another user of the term idjit!
You must have grown up in Tennessee. I thought our family was the only one who used that.

7. Actually, I'm a Missouri hillbilly so that's where I got it.

4. i ALWAYS have a dozen voter registration forms in my car for
moments just like that!

go you you county Dem office or county supervisor and pick up a stack to have on hand. You gotta strike em when they're hot (or drunk) and then call em right before the elections to "remind" them

if we all did that, the election will be a landslide :)

5. GREAT IDEA. Especially the "plying them with liquor" part
So...I do agree I should get them registerd. The one guy said he asked a GOP engineering manager. "Hey, how do I register. Can I register to be a republican?" The guy said great! Here's what you do...blah blah. Then this guy replies. "Great. I'll register Republican and vote Democrat" The other guy wasn't happy.

13. Howdy, Bro...
Yep, I'm one of the many disillusioned who actually defended Bush to you guys. He's made a long time enemy of me. Also, I've convinced my stepdaughter to register and vote for Kerry. She's doing so, not only out of outrage, but also for her son's future.

And yes, this NASCAR lovin' hillbilly really is that cosmopolitan tech weeny's brother...and yes, i'm online with a WiFi connection in a truckstop parking lot in southern Kentucky.

Thanks everyone.
