Your local news
Edited on Sun May-16-04 06:32 PM by Snoggera
Not a word about killed GI's. Not a single word about the "war." Now, after commercials for SUV's, they are planning on having a 30 second story about the MTP camera.

I rarely watch the local news, because I just don't care, but it struck me what they felt was important.

The top story.

The city had been unable to close a bar that was notorious for the past 42 years for drugs and violence, so they bought it.

It went downhill from there.

edit because I forgot the last line:

What does your local news report? Is it biased or does it seem to cover the important issues in an intelligent manner?

1. The top story on local (Houston) nbc, ch 2...
...was about an alligator in Memorial Park. Heavy rains lately have apparently flushed the poor creatures out in the open. No war news here either and nothing else was worth noting unless you are a city police or fire person who are going to get their pension cut.

2. I can understand why local news wouldn't cover national stories
after all, that is what national network news is for. But I do fault them for the lack of state and local news stories. You could watch a year of local news and still have no idea who is running for state office or what they think. That is the scandal and it makes state campaigns so expensive.

3. If you like five lengthy weather reports per hour
(along with bad attempts at "folksy" humor) and if you're interested what sort of violence or mayhem is going on, then you'd love every single channel of local "news" in Portland.

Otherwise, they're all a complete waste of time if not wholly unwatchable....
