I think the Republicans are Screwed.
Not to sound arrogant.

But if you look at the way things are going, they have put all their eggs in one basket. Bush. Now they have an incumbent running for re-election that is sinking. If they stay with him, they will go down with the ship, and if he is somehow taken out of the running and replaced, then things would turn upside down for them. Don't get me wrong, there is still a chance we could lose, but it just seems that the Republicans are killing themselves under the weight of their own ambitions. They will either start moving back towards the center, or they will die out.

My take is roughly the same as Will Pitt posted a few days ago. Expect a "ounce" for Bush sometime in the next two-three months....

The hard work still lies aheaed of us.

5. I agree.
It may be too early and I probably shouldn't be making this assertion, and we need to work hard for every vote whether we have about 50% or 75% of the electorate. He will probably get a bounce and Kerry and the DNC will have to fight, but the way things are going, what I said seems to be inevitable. The problem is, will they take us down with them?

Let's not count on it. To win this election will demand a max effort--fight like you're losing even when you're winning is always a good strategy.

Personally, I just keep making contributions to Kerry's campaign and reminding my fellow US/Canada dual citizens to get their absentee ballot ducks lined up. This is one US election that MUST go to the Dems! Failure is not an option.

21. I heard it predicted before the '00 selection
that we are seeing the gop in its death throws. Mike Malloy said as much, and I totally agree. In their win at all costs mentality they thought the could install another puppet and no one would notice. Ronnie pulled it off, why not the chimp? For one thing, the Gipper didn't piss off the rest of the world.

This in no way means that Kerry's going to be in the WH come late January. Chimpy's masters have to completely pull the plug on this experiment. First order of business is getting Kerry elected and inaugurated. Then go after the rest of the bush clan to make sure they rule no more.

They have made a huge mess that they don't even want to begin having to clean up, and they have made a shitload of money. So if and when they get tossed out on their asses, I think they will just take the billions they made while screwing the country six ways from Sunday and just drop out of sight.
