ATTENTION: To all those poo-pooing the possibility of a McCain veep nod
I'm taking this possibility VERY seriously and here's why:
It's happening here in Montana. Brian Schweitzer, the Democratic governor wannabe, has chosen a Republican as his running mate. Why is this even necessary? Judy Martz, the current repub governor, is universally loathed and isn't even running for re-election. Schweitzer has name recognition from previous statewide political campaigns. The Democrats stand a very good chance of making inroads in, if not actually taking control of, the legislature because of a redistricting plan that gives them a more level playing field.
Why on earth do we want to legitimize the Republican Party at this point in time? If moderate Republicans want bi-partisanship and unity then they can push to replace people like Bill Frist with John McCain. They don't care about unity...they care about saving their own hides in the face of possible disaster.
Where have these moderates been for the past four years while Bush has been pushing his radical right wing agenda? They've been supporting it. Why the fuck should we take them at their word NOW when they've been silent when it really counts?
I'm voting NO on a Schweitzer-Republican gubenatorial ticket and will vote the same way for a Kerry-McCain ticket.
Just to let all you trial-balloon floaters know.

3. Right now, however reluctant I may be
he has my vote. With McCain he doesn't and he'll have to find someone else to replace it.

5. Well he would find about 3 people lined up to replace you.

Math is funny like that.

Edit: just to be clear I think that it is a silly ticket myself, and only a pipe dream.

8. And I'd be out finding some fence-sitters
to turn against him.

Reply to your edit: I'm taking this more seriously than "just a pipe dream" because of the reasons I stated above.

13. Once again, I don't like the idea myself
but he would win with about 60% of the vote. 20%on the left and the same on the right would not vote for him.

9. It's so nice to see all of this demanding of ideological purity!
Gosh, if Kerry selects McCain, we'll all just take our toys and go home. Then probably Bush* will win. But we'll show everyone how noble and pure we are! Over a friggin VP candidate!!!!

10. Nice to see you think so highly of the Democrats
that you think we can't win on our policies and ideas and can win only by running Republicans. :puke:

14. I do think highly of Democrats who support our party's candidate
I don't think highly of whiners who would desert the party over a VP selection. Kerry's policies will be "our" policies. Kerry's ideas will be our "ideas". He's the nominee.

I've never said I wanted McCain to be the selection. I think it is good politics for Kerry to talk about the possibility. I would much prefer a Democrat who would take the fight to ShrubCo. But, if Kerry decides he needs McCain to win, I'll support him all the way. All real Democrats should agree. Otherwise, DINO time.

12. I just do not understand.........
why or how we could trust ANY of them. They sure have not earned our trust. They have pulled every dirty trick known to American politics and then some. It's too bad that a seemingly OK guy(debatable) like McCain has to be treated like this but it must be now. We need them down, to take the wind out of their sails. They think they can do anything and get away with anything. They need to learn a lesson. That they cannot treat the good people of this country like idiots and get away with it. They need a BIG PUT DOWN! I know I sound severe right now but this is how I feel about them. Extend a hand of friendship to them and draw back a bloody stump. They cannot be trusted.

15. Montana Politics
Not too familiar with Montana, but my limited knowledge seems to include that Bush*s campaign manager, Racicot, used to be Montana governor. I read something about his tenure that seemed to have a lot of negatives, such as selling off the states power generators to private consortiums a la California which caused all kinds of problems and slashed all the good parts of the state gov't. Also a lot of cronyism with the railroad industry, which cost the farmers/ranchers a lot. Why on earth did Montana elect another repug after Racicot? Did Martz continue to dismantle the state the way Racicot did?

I agree with your outrage. After all that damage and abuse, WTF is Schweitzer running with a repuke? I assume the repuke would be lieutenant governor? Why run with someone who will block and serve as an inside disrupter for the opposition?

16. Are you aware that John McCain is chair of the
Bush-Cheney campaign in Arizona?

WHY ON THE GODDESS'S GREEN/BROWN/BLUE/WHITE EARTH WOULD WE WANT SOMEONE WHO SUPPORTS THOSE MURDERING PUKES?

Because he would bring in votes? Oh, GMAFB. Edwards would bring in votes, so would Clark.

Does McCain have some sort of advantage over them? What is it? That he's anti-choice? That he's pro-business? Oh, wow, that makes him a GREAT democrat. ( mega sarcasm )

McCain can't be loyal to his own party half the time, and the rest of the time kisses up to the asswipe that lied about him. You want THAT for Kerry's VP?

I don't. Fortunately, I don't think there's a snowball's chance in Phoenix in July that Kerry would pick McCain, but it just bugs the snot out of me that anyone would want him.

You're all entitled to your opinion, of course. Of course.

then you either didn't read or misunderstood my post. Not only do I NOT want McCain, I'd campaign against a ticket with him on it.
