This is a great group, more active than the DEC in some ways. Its purpose is just to get out the vote for a Democratic candidate. It is not as geared to the party establishment mindset as it is toward activism in all forms. It has been drawing good numbers from Tampa to Orlando across the very busy I-4 Corridor.

7:30 p.m. • The I-4 Corridor • Becky Martin, Community Educator, Florida Consumer Action Network, and featured speaker will discuss the newly passed Medicare and Prescription Drug Modernization Act of 2003 and its impact on seniors, taxpayers, and disabled Americans. She will present a video, “Navigating the New Medicare Rx Law,” hosted by retired newsman Walter Cronkite and presented by Families USA. This meeting will be of special interest for individuals who are on Medicare or have friends or family members on Medicare. This meeting is provided by a joint effort of The Florida Consumer Action Network Foundation, Florida Alliance for Retired Americans, and Common Cause - Florida. Venue: The First Baptist Institutional Church, 932 Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue, Lakeland. It is at the S.W. corner of M. L. K. Ave. and US 92 (Memorial Blvd), the first light west of South Florida Avenue. Former barbershop quarter singer, former pharmacist, good guy. James is a teacher in this area. This group is active in involving the African America community in a way the DEC has not. Both serve their purpose, but this one is more activist.
