Interesting FR thread on the latest Zogby polling #'s:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1136691/posts?page=1,50

It's just interesting to see the responses on this topic. A few fairly intelligent posters (esp boxsmith 13 who is very pessimistic about shrub's chances).

Lots of denial, many who have can barely even conceive that shrub could lose. It's very hard for me to think about Kerry losing in NOV, but I can definitely conceive of it, sadly enough...

Lots of the typical denial of any polling organization where the results go against you. We certainly see it a lot here at DU.

It's amazing that it seems like only one of the posters (boxsmith) recognizes that it's all about Iraq and the perceptions of how things are going there. The guys there have immersed themselves so deeply in their little world that they don't recognize this is what it's all about.

I feel there is something to be learned studying a thread like this about how a certain type of Repub voter thinks. I'm just not sure what those lessons are yet.

1. I like this one

If Bush is polling 45-45 versus Kerry in the Red States, then either I or Zogby is occupying an alternative universe.

Every other poll has Bush up by at least 10 in the red states.

More garbage from the ZOG.

---snip ---

The poster seems to be playing on words here, where ZOG could mean Zogby or "ZOG." Of course, we all know that "ZOG" is white supremecist code for "Zionist Occupation Government," a real doozy of a concept developed by some of the most resentful racist elements of the US society. That it would be cited so cavalierly and winkingly at FR is - after all this time - still quite shocking to me.

2. The Freepers live in an echo chamber!
They listen to Rush, Hannity & other radio nuts.

They watch Fox News.

And they have banned all dissenting voices at FR. They delete unpopular posts....anything that makes Shrub look bad.

3. I took a look earlier
They can't even talk about Colin Powell and Bremer bringing up the possibility of allowing a theocracy to take hold in Iraq. They're all about serious denial...

4. Shades Of 2000
I used to play with the flying monkeys on the AOL message boards in those days and it was amusing to watch them flock to whatever tidbit of good poll data they could and totally deny the stuff that looked bad. It was frustrating as all hell cause people like Zogby were showing Gore pretty much right where he finished with a majority of the popular vote, yet when the election was stolen, these assholes felt that somehow vindicated how the polls they didn't subscribe to were completely wrong.

Yep, they do live in an echo chamber and right now there's a lot of doubting going on. Look at how strident those who are defending the Chimpster on FR are these days and the almost forced praise on the boy. It's like the meme "I support the pResident" is like a gag reflex.

Hopefully Free Republic will be in the 2000s what the John Birch society was in the 50s and 60s...a threat for a while, but exposed and marginalized.

When I left the AOL wars following the 2002 elections, I just couldn't deal with the arrogance any longer, I wished the wingnuts good luck and now that they had all the levers of power, it was put up or shut up time. Lately I've begun to troll back on the boards I used to visit...and seems a lot of new faces have popped up and are giving the "old timers" a pretty good bitch slapping. Maybe I should...naaah....

5. Freepers a waste of our time
friends, you have as much a chance of converting a freeper as he has of doing it to you.

Better use your scarce time on independent fencesitters. Find them on boards that deal with such as a town, or hobby, or whatever.

To just learn which arguments fm repubs you must refute this week, better to listen to rush... which is where independents will be poisoned this week. FR will have many arguments, but Rush will have the key ones fed to millions. It is Rush's key one s you need to figure how to answer this week.

Forget FR. Big waste of your scarce time. We need you to go convert fencesitters before Nov.

An hour can be spent beating on a brick at FR, or it can convert two fencesitters on the Chicago city forum board.

6. Long Since Stopped Wasting Time There
My activities now are in "the flesh"...giving where I can be of help at the present time. Other than posting on DU, I gave up in playing with the animals. Yep, might as well try converting a brick.

I still get a kick out of reading what they have to say...especially when they go off the deep ends of reality, just as I do with the tin foil hatters around here. It's part of a steady diet.

The Chicago city forum board? Not familiar with that one...any more info?
