The real problem with a Kerry McCain ticket
I think we have a fundamental misunderstanding of at least some swing voters. While some are evidently more person oriented than ideologically oriented and thus might be tempted to vote for this, many others are actually not moderate at all. They are fighting a battle between issues the like the Democrats on and issues they like the Republicans on. The reason they change is that the important issues change.

No matter what Kerry does between now and November, he can't alter the public's perception of Bush and the war on Terror. That isn't to say it isn't able to be altered just that Kerry can't alter it (no one but Bush and the terrorists can). It is hard to imagine the senario in which Bush won't have some edge here. Thus we need to get our edge elsewhere.

That is where issues come in. Most of the swing voters are economic liberals who favor Bush on social and military issues. Thus we must be very different economicly to make up for the differences on these other issues. McCain sends the exact wrong message. This is an important election with huge differences on the issue of the day (on which Dems have an advantage BTW) not some sort of personality contest. McCain and Kerry disagree on virtually every important issue of the day. If Kerry says he and McCain are the same how in God's name are these swing voters not going to think they are the same? That is the problem.

2. The big big problem with
having McCain on the ticket is that he is a Republican and if something happened to Kerry after elected, that would put a Republican in as president.

4. And being Republicans are Republicans.......
"SOMETHING" is guaranteed to happen....They would tie McCain's hands and marginalize him ...The same bunch of pro- corporate bastards would be 'LOOKING' after us......Before we knew it....Crawford Texas would again be missing their idiot AGAIN....Please McCain just is not a good choice......

Do you doubt that?

6. Enough already.
It's not going to happen & the whole notion suggests that there's no equally (or better) qualified Democrat who can fill the roll.

Seriously - the mods should start locking these threads, they do nothing to further the prospect of Kerry being elected.

7. mccain would probably make an excellent member of the cabinet
because he appears to be a decent man, despite the "r" next to the dash by his name.

but, i'll echo the others. he could never be vp because he has that "r" in there.

9. I would vote for two republicans (bush and cheney)
before I would vote for a split ticket. This whole 'lets have a repug VP' thing is ridiculous.

11. Why not pick someone with strong security credentials who is an
economic liberal? That way, both bases are covered. Not to hard to do with Wes Clark on your team.

That said, I have no idea whats going in in Ben Nelson, Joe Biden and Bob Kerrey's minds when they make this suggestion. Its mind-boggling.

12. The Kerry canpaign is using McCain as VP
to get media attention, to emphasize Kerry's military service record and the fact that he gets along with a moderate conservative like McCain, or at least, that's what meny think about McCain. Whenever they mention the possibilty of McCain's being VP, they mention McCain's POW record, and follow it with a description of Kerry as highly decorated. And it makes those who have been hearing about the Taxachussetts liberal think twice about that description.
