Tweety referred to Arianna's as "insane candidacy"
I heard Matthews ask somebody about all these "insane candidacies" then mentioned Huffington and lumped her in with Gary Coleman, a sumo wrestler and some porno person. I mean what the hell? Ahnold is more legit? Give me a freakin' break here. Arianna has a masters in economics from Cambridge for crying out loud!! She writes constantly about the issues that are at the core of California's problems. She's a best selling author. She's also the only one with the guts and the knowledge to speak intelligently about the enron/bush/cheney screwing of California and the whole country. Our democracy is being held hostile by the idiots of cable news like tweety. That man makes me crazy.

Oh here's a good article on her run by the way:

2. Ms. Huffington is a great writer
I do worry about her on the campaign trail a bit, but only from an image perspective. She is someone who has a firm grasp of the issues and would bring a much more progressive style to Sacramento.

5. She's not a great writer
Ever wonder why her ex-hubby is so bitter towards her? My theory--she knew he was gay when they married. But he wanted a political career, so she said their sham marriage, and her ruthless ambition could deliver. Well, it didn't--she was a nobody who got lots of his money to make a name for herself.

Don't trust her--never will, although I wouldn't lump her with Gary Coleman or Larry Flynt. She might get a few more votes.

She came out of the gate swinging at enron but Arnold sucked up all the media attention and still is............

Edited on Mon Aug-11-03 10:42 AM by TahitiNut
Her name does not appear as a candidate on the California Secretary of State's list of candidates. Michael Huffington is listed. Arianna Huffington is not.

Am I missing something?

18. I think your lists are missing something.
Arianna showed up at the same time Arnie did to file for candidacy. There was a big hoopla about it. She isn't getting the air time Arnold is though and unless she has dropped out, will probably show up wherever Mr. Pecs does.

She is definitely a declared candidate. It was mentioned on her website, last week.

14. Writing is not doing
I don't think she is a viable candidate either, even with her degree. Having opinions is not the same thing as being able to put those opinions into action. As far as I can see, she's never actually done anything and wanting to elect her because you like something she says is as fluffy-headed as wanting to elect Arnold because you like something he says.

17. that might make sense
if Ahnold had ever actually said something.

Her whole agenda is about exposing the large corporate interests like enron that have been screwing this country and CA in particular for such a long time. She's more than capable of exposing the connection between the Republican party, Cheney/Bush/Enron and the California situation. She seems to be ideally suited to the situation at hand.

Also, wasn't Ronald Reagan a Democrat at one point? I seem to remember him switching parties, becoming the governer of a large western state and making quite a difference on the world stage. Why couldn't that happen again?

Fluffy headed my ass!

23. Ronald Reagan? How'd he get in my post?
She's said alot of great things, Arnold supports alot of great things like after-school programs and putting children first. Doesn't mean either one of them have a clue how to take those ideas and turn them into policy that will effect change.

32. OK, so what does "having a clue" entail?
Taking ideas and turning them into policy involves persuasion and negotiation. Do you need years of legislative service to understand that? I think she's bright enough to comprehend the system.

20. This is a new one, writing is not actually doing anything.
It's too bad you hold writers in such low regard, where would we be without them?

One opinion she put into action was the SUV terrorism ad campaign, would you consider that putting an idea into action?

22. I didn't say that
I said writing isn't putting anything into action. And the SUV terrorism ad didn't do anything to change policy did it? That's my whole point. If she was effective, she would have come up with an effective idea that actually changed people's minds. Instead she came off looking like a loon to most mainstream Americans and actually gave support to the notion that liberal elites are all for telling somebody else how to live while continuing to live a lavish lifestyle themselves.

33. The SUV terrorism ad was brilliant.
It suffered because of the gutlessness of media outlets, not public outcry. I think in this arena she's less likely to be shutdown.

Arianna is the perfect National candidate. She _has_ a platform and expressed ideas, she is forceful about them, she has no fear and attacks Bush directly. This is bad how?

If you want to annoy Rove and Co., Her election would do it. I don't see Cruz worrying the GOP.

38. My sentiments exactly!
I admire her for the way she is able to debate intelliently without anger and she never seems to be outmaneuvered by the loons. I think she is beautiful and very intelligent. In my mind, those attributes would be great for "Callie fornia". I even love the way she says that. I didn't like her Clinton bashing, but there was a lot of that going around and I think she has a right to make her own decisions like the rest of us; and, frankly, I am glad she is now on our side.

Conservative renaissance man flips Huffington the bird live on CNN

Ever heard of Ben Stein? You've probably read his stuff or seen him on TV over the years. He's a conservative who in 1973 and '74 was a speechwriter and lawyer for Richard Nixon and then Gerald Ford. (An online bio assures us that he didn't pen the line, "I am not a crook.") His father, Herbert Stein, served as Chairman of Nixon's Council of Economic Advisors.

Ben Stein has been a columnist and editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal and has written for many other publications. He's an actor who has played teachers in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and on the television show "The Wonder Years." He's been in commercials and is the author of more than a dozen books. Currently, he hosts the Comedy Central game show, "Win Ben Stein's Money."

On Friday, January 11, Stein made television history. He flipped Arianna Huffington the bird -- live on CNN's "TalkBack Live: America Speaks Out."
