The Boss (Springsteen) vs. The Prez

The Boss vs. The Prez

Could Bruce Springsteen be plotting to rain on the Republicans' campaign parade?

Democratic operatives are buzzing that the Boss has been talking about staging a free concert somewhere on Sept. 2, when President Bush is due to address the Republican National Convention.

Besides getting out the vote, Springsteen hopes to provide "counterprogramming to the message the Republicans will be broadcasting," says a source.

A spokeswoman for Springsteen would only say, "There are no confirmed Bruce shows for 2004."

Critics say that Bruce's songs almost always revolve around the night, women and cars. I say -- what the hell's wrong with that? Bruce is one of the few remaining artists who remember what a rock and roll show is supposed to be about.
The fact he can't stand Repubs in general and Dopey in particular is all to the good. The other fact, that Polly and I hope to be in NYC just then makes it sweeter yet.
John
It is now 32 days, 22 hours and 57 minutes to FUNDAY. We'll have some Springsteen music on the playlist somewhere.

7. Do critics really say that?
Bruce writes some of the deepest shit ever heard in rock and roll, are you sure you're not thinking of someone else?

5. Oh, I hope he does!
Besides, it certainly looks as though Bush will be as welcome in New York as Ian Paisley would be at the Knights of Columbus. It's going to be a madhouse there in terms of protests and other events.

This could be interesting.

14. He could play music just liek Clinton
But unlike Clinton, he'd be good at it. One thing's for sure, he'd be the best dancer ever to lead a world power.

15. "Vote for Bruce, baby, he was born to run"
Hmmm... all the popularity of Ahh-nuld (no, really, at least within NJ) and none of the platitudes.

If the situation with McGreevey (Bush*-like poll numbers) gets too dire, he could even go for Gov next fall.
