Moore Brings Down House: Longest Standing Ovation 'In History of Cannes'
www.drudgereport.com (of all places..)

"20 mins standing ovation for FAHRENHEIT 9-11, yelling, screaming, cheering... 'This is the longest stading ovation in the history of the festival! Unbelievable!' declared Cannes stalwart Thierry Fremaux. Moore, raising fist, unable to speak over crowd, vows to fight... Controversial scene in film shows wounded American GI in Iraq talking about how Democrats must win election... Movie shows video of U.S. soldiers laughing as they place hoods over Iraqi detainees, with one of them grabbing a prisoner's genitals through a blanket..."

1. OMG.
This just might be the nail in the coffin of this misadministration (October surprises notwithstanding).

2. More and more I think that an October surprise won't do anything
for Bush. A terrorist attack in the US? It's Bush's fault. We find Osama Bin Laden? Great, but if terrorism doesn't stop, what difference did it make? Bush is on a slippery slope out of the White House, and pessimism in America is high. I'm thinking he's screwed.

if he's really P.O.'d ... his danger to others goes way up - he has to be contained with meds ... his need to retaliate goes up in equal parts or more ...

just fake the results - in terms of a Bushco election strategy my guess is their theory is "if it aint broke don't fix it" - they completely and utterly got away with election theft before - why wouldn't they get away with it again

33. Its already a National joke, even Leno brings it up....
I've seen him bring up popping OBL out just before the election several times in his monologue. It always gets big laughs, people know that it will be nothing more than put up BS that close to an election.

Bush and Rover have to know this and are banging their heads into the wall trying to come up with something that will work.

More dead US citizens in a LIHOP would be their only option right now.

"Mr. Moore is confident it will sway votes against Mr. Bush, though he notes the film, into which he also has tried to inject a good dose of humor, is likewise critical of Democrats for not posing any significant opposition to Mr. Bush after Sept. 11. Mr. Moore said he was considering making at least one sequence from the film available to the news media today after he presents it at the Cannes film festival: that of American soldiers laughing and taking pictures as they place hoods over Iraqi detainees, with one of them touching a prisoner's genitals through a blanket."

41. We need some Warez!!!!!

I will PAY to see this film more than once. I will DRAG friends to go see it. But if ANY film needs to be freely distributed, it's this one. We have to make sure that "swing" voters see it. That involves a copious amount of piracy.

Look at it this way. Burning bootleg copies of Fahrenheit 9/11 for Middle Americans who otherwise would shun the movie would have no effect on the box office totals. These folks won't see the movie anyway.

Mike, it's for the greater good!!!!!

34. The Academy disagrees with you.
I believe much is debunked at snopes. Moore has a debunking at his site.

Basically the big two are: The gun at the bank was staged, and that plant really didn't make missles.

Moore called up the bank to see if they could film him opening an account, it's required by law that you have to get people's permission to film them, other then that it was exactly as depicted in the documentary.

And more never claimed the Littleton plant actually produced the missles, albeit there's a giant missle directly behind the plant manager during the interview.

Then there's the crap about the little boy shooting the little girl. He claims Moore blamed the shooting on bad parenting, he didn't, and then criticizes Moore for not discussing the boy's record. Which is considered one of Moore's "big lies" even though it's quite irrelevant to the discussion.

I could go on and on about how your site is bullshit, but it's been done so many times I don't care to.

Frankly, you make Michael Moore look like Honest Abe Lincoln.

42. I read some of these reviews before I saw the movie ...

They made Moore out to be a sensalionalist tabloid journalist who preyed on tragedy and engaged in overt logical fallacies.

After seeing the movie, I found it to be deep and well thought out. Michael Moore didn't blame ANYBODY. But he did indict the "climate of fear". He indicted this notion of making everybody SCARED all the time for little or no reason. Where is our Churchill: "The only thing to fear, is fear itself."

Roosevelt and Churchill give "Bowling for Columbine" two BIG thumbs up.

16. And here's more from the NY Times...
Edited on Mon May-17-04 01:27 PM by NYCGirl
in the NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/05/17/movies/17MOOR.html

"Mr. Moore and his production team said they also believed the film would get attention for showing that a name excised from one of Mr. Bush's National Guard records was that of an investment counselor for one of Osama bin Laden's brothers, Salem.

In a copy of the record released by the National Guard in 2000, the man in question, James R. Bath, was listed as being suspended from flying for the National Guard in 1972 for failing to take a medical exam next to a similar listing for Mr. Bush. It has been widely reported that the two were friends and that Mr. Bath invested in Mr. Bush's first major business venture, Arbusto Energy, in the late 1970's after Mr. Bath began working for Salem bin Laden.

Mr. Bath and the White House have said that the money he invested in Mr. Bush's company was his, not that of Mr. bin Laden. The White House said Friday that Mr. Bath's name was expunged from the record it released in February only to protect his privacy and should have been in 2000, as well."

20. Go Michael! Disney has already announced they will let Moore & Miramax
find their own film distributer...How about Dreamworks (Steven Spielberg).

As Michael Moore’s new film, “Fahrenheit 9/11,” hits the screens at the Cannes Film Festival in France, Disney and Miramax are finally coming to an agreement that will allow the controversial documentary to be seen by U.S. audiences. Miramax will purchase the film, but they will find a third party company to distribute it."

36. here's the Hollywood Reporter's review:
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/thr/reviews/review_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1000512305

Bottom line: Where "Roger & Me" and "Bowling for Columbine" were personal quests for truth, looking at a subject from different angles and talking to people polls apart in their points of view, Moore stays "on mesasage" here from first shot to last.
CANNES -- In "Fahrenheit 9/11," Michael Moore drops any pretense that he is a documentarian to pull together from many sources an angry polemic against the president, the Bush family and the administration's foreign policy. Where "Roger & Me" and "Bowling for Columbine" were personal quests for truth, looking at a subject from different angles and talking to people polls apart in their points of view, Moore stays "on message" here from first shot to last. There is no debate, no analysis of facts or search for historical context. Moore simply wants to blame one man and his family for the mess we are now in.

50. More from the Reporter
"Even if one agrees with all of Moore's arguments, the film reduces decades of American foreign-policy failures to a black-and-white cartoon that lays the blame on one family. He ignores facts like the policy to arm and support Afghan rebels that began in the Carter administration. For that matter, the Clinton team never mounted a serious effort to go after al-Qaida even after the 1998 embassy bombings in East Africa...

What Moore seems to be pioneering here is a reality film as an election-year device. The facts and arguments are no different than those one can glean from political commentary or recently published books on these subjects. Only the impact of film may prove greater than the printed word. So the real question is not how good a film is "Fahrenheit 9/11" -- it is undoubtedly Moore's weakest -- but will a film help to get a president fired?"

and hopefully it's not the last of the blaming the one man and his family. The bush family evil empire needs to go down and go down hard. From nazi sympathizers to war profiteers, these are NOT nice people. They've been sucking off of the public tit for generations. They've made a family dynasty peddling influence and weapons of destruction.

37. Reading this, I can't help but wonder
what kind of response the U.S. will receive at the summer Olympics. I read the foreign press fairly often and realize how much the rest of the world distrusts our government. I'm wondering how much their disapproval of the Bushies will transfer to U.S. athletes. I'm hoping that people around the world realize that at least half of all Americans do not support our current regime's actions. Michael Moore, and many others, help show that we're not all in lockstep with this unprecedented invasion and unlawful takeover. The rest of the world needs to know that we are a country of thinking, compassionate people who will fight this oppressive, brutal administration.
