Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in the Sulaimaniyah mountains of northern Iraq "during the American bombing there," said a statement circulated in Fallujah this week and signed by the "Leadership of the Allahu Akbar Mujahedeen."

There was no way to verify the authenticity of the statement, one of many leaflets put out by a variety of groups taking part in the anti-U.S. resistance.

The statement did not say when al-Zarqawi was killed but U.S. jets bombed strongholds of the extremist Ansar al-Islam in northern Iraq last April as captive Iraqi president Saddam Hussein's regime was collapsing.

It said al-Zarqawi was unable to escape the bombing because of his artificial leg. . . .

Second: The Current Situation and the Future

There is no doubt that the Americans’ losses are very heavy because they are deployed across a wide area and among the people and because it is easy to procure weapons, all of which makes them easy and mouth-watering targets for the believers. But America did not come to leave, and it will not leave no matter how numerous its wounds become and how much of its blood is spilled. It is looking to the near future, when it hopes to disappear into its bases secure and at ease and put the battlefields of Iraq into the hands of the foundling government with an army and police that will bring the behavior of Saddam and his myrmidons back to the people. Frightening? In fall 2003, because things are going so bad (we're told), Rumsfeld expands torture and blackmail in Iraq jails to get informants on the Iraqi resistance, but in early 2004 Al-Zarqawi is so pessimistic about how the fight against them is going.

Other than that it's mainly a call for civil war between Sunni and Shi'a. Much better than them presenting a united front against the occupation hmm?
