The WMD story is meant to do the same thing as the Berg video
Edited on Mon May-17-04 03:41 PM by Walt Starr
The rightwing playing up this faux WMD sighting (sorta like an Elvis sighting if you ask me) and playing up the Berg video are intended to have the same effect as Bush calling for an amendment to the constitutions specifically to take rights away from a class of people today.

These things are all meant to SHORE UP THE RIGHTWING BASE!!!

They're terrified, folks. They are shoring up their base after spending millions upon millions in a futile attempt to attract the middle to their cause! This can mean only one thing. Their internal polling shows they are losing the interest of their base, and without their base they are truly sunk!

The Kerry campaign needs to strike while the iron is hot. Polling tends to indicate that the majority believe that the gay marriage issue is a state's rights issue. Kerry needs to be clear about this in how he responds to the issue. Kerry needs to comndemn the Berg murderers while still condemning the torture of the Iraqi prisoners, taking the high ground. He needs to be cautious on the war issue as the middle still thinks that getting Saddam was right but they're angry about how there is no leadership or direction for Iraq.

Hold it....

Kerry's already doing this....

Nevermind.

Looks like Kerry is going after the middle while Bush is shoring up his base.

Tell me again whose campaign is having problems?

1. I agree, we may just be seeing the tip of the iceberg. Rove will not go
quietly into that good night. I truly believe they will start another war if that's what it takes.

2. They are more than just terrified
I see that the world is no longer friendly to these guys...

You are right, I see all of this as throwing red meat to the base.

3. For some reason, it just doesn't have the same affect...
some people can actually see through the right wing propoganda and exaggerated stories.

4. It would be interesting if the attempts to shore up the base
ends up driving them further away because they can start seeing through the bullshit.

5. I agree
ever the optimist I guess-I think the WMD boat has sailed. Far too little, too late. They look like frauds, even the people that don't pay attention to politics can kind of smell it on them.

Once you reach that magic tipping point, everything starts to look like what it is, a desperate attempt to save a drowning man.

10. And EVERY SINGLE PERSON we speak to increases that number
From the Stolen "Election" onward, the Bushevik High Water Mark for Amerikan Gullibility, it has been going downhill for them.

If the Busheviks aren't ready to ratchet up the Lies, Deceptions, and Vote Rigging to Nazi/Soviet levels, then they will lose.

It may well take more than the 10% Bushevik Head Start conferred on them by Diebold as well as all the other manual Disenfranchisemnt Techniques pioneered by the Busheviks in 2000, 2002, and who knows how long it's been going on?

14. This is true - remember the Lesson of Johnnie Cochran!
He successfully planted the seeds of reasonable doubt in the OJ jury. Effective defense lawyers do it all the time. You poison the well, that way. You create an environment that is inhospitable to these attempts to shore up bush's credibility. It may work briefly, but if enough of us plant sufficient quantities of these seeds, the well will be poisoned and nobody will want to drink from it, no matter how appetizing the other side portrays it. You generate an impression of suspicion within people, so they're automatically pre-disposed to look on something like this askance. You lay the groundwork and then any punch they throw won't land. It's like putting up the storm windows before the big winds come. If you invest in really good-quality storm windows, they'll will help you weather that storm. A good-quality argument with wavering friends or coworkers can go a long way to deflect the power of this sarin "find."

15. But it's NOT "poisoning the well"
if our media really is winding up into a Soviet-style Lie Laundry and Disinformation Machine.

I realize you were just using the terminology but you can't poison a well that's already poisonous.

6. Bush* could produce Noah's ark
and a crashed UFO from Roswell and it still wouldn't help his DOA campaign. Maybe there is an opening for dog catcher back in Crawfish or Crawdad or whatever that dusthole place is in Texas.

7. So far the only test
is a field test that came back positive, all the other positive field tests have been overturned. IMHO this will not bear out. It is a distraction from the real story. Rummy OKed abuse.

9. Yeah, but for the tenth or eleventh time since the start of the war
You have Faux all over the story proudly announcing that WMDs have been found and the conservative base are in an "I told you so" mode.

I think we know where this is going, just like the last ten times they pulled this shit. It's a one-day number booster. Nothing more.

8. Hanity is still beating the dead horse issue of not showing Berg death
They do seem desperate to me because they keep trying the same idea over and over without having any effect.

They are starting to lose their base and the independents. You can here the frustration in their voices.

13. They already lost the independants
Anyone with a open mind already understands Bush is no good for America or the world.
