Ohio Plant Visited By Bush in 2003 Shuts Down
You can't make this stuff up...

http://counterspin.blogspot.com/2004/05/bush-league-ohio-manufacturing-plant.html

<snip>

BUSH LEAGUE: An Ohio manufacturing plant that George W. Bush used last year as a backdrop to show how his economic polciies were working...has shut down.

Here's more on the plant closure.

"Timken is slashing a quarter of its employees in Canton, and as workers facing layoffs consider their future, the ripple effect is already beginning.

"How can I afford to get married, afford a house payment, maybe kids, if I don't have a job?" said Timken employee Shawn Higgins.

Timken is Canton's biggest employer, and it is reported that 1,300 jobs are to be cut. Former Mayor Richard Watkins, who led the city for 12 years, knows how enormous the impact of such a downsizing can be.

"It isn't just about Timken," said Watkins. "Other jobs are affected. If (people) can't spend money, the smaller entrepreneur won't be able to stay in business."

Ironically, it was a little more than a year ago when President George W. Bush visited Timken's world headquarters heralding his tax cut and job creation plan. Now this very company's job cuts will be a major blow to the economy in Canton."

7. "Jobs for America, Jobs for America..." backdrops available cheap
I'm sure there's one of those big flashy backdrops they use for his speeches left over somewhere.

8. Will the ex-workers still vote for * though?
I know a lot of republicans. Many of them say the same thing when it comes to losing jobs: "I know money is tight, but why me and my company?" Even managers. A county program I heard of lost money and people and everybody involved, even the one who lamented the budget cuts, were Republican. And it was a good program too.

All of the people you've taken quotes are right. To take away middle class jobs is taking away America. Corporations have found new and continued ways to bypass paying their fair share and supporting their fellow Americans in the process. At some point, people will wake up. Hopefully BEFORE it becomes illegal to show post-1979 graphs and statistics to people... (Since 1979, corporations have been getting magnitudes sleazier and the people doing more for LESS, until their jobs go bye-bye...

When will this country learn? Republicans are about themselves. There's no better way to put it. They say "fiscal responsibility" but we've seen what they've done -> Tax cuts and spending a lot needlessly. (or if their plan was to forcibly dominate the world, it's no wonder they think they're not spending nearly enough... :scared: )

9. From the Timken site...

Introduction of President Bush
by: W.R. "Tim" Timken, Jr.
date: April 24, 2003
audience: Timken associates and government officials

Mr. President, it's an honor on behalf of all my Timken Company associates to welcome you here today.

But before I go one word further, I must convey to you the feelings expressed to me by hundreds of our associates, many of them in this room. They say, "if you see the President, thank him for his decisive leadership in protecting our families from terrorism."

The President is here today because he understands manufacturing is the engine of growth and creator for our American economy.

While I was National Association of Manufacturing chairman, he spoke passionately to me about providing every American with an opportunity for a good job. He understands what it means for families when slow growth limits employment possibilities.

The NAM and I endorse the President's plan for jobs and economic growth. We believe the package should be passed by the Congress quickly. This is the best way to put people to work and drive our economy.

Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, George W. Bush.

11. Timken's bad news is this country's bad news.
Timken is well known for their tapered roller bearings. Every car built and every machine tool uses these type of bearing. They also make specialty, hi-chromium steel. This is an important industrial company.
