Question about the Marines
Aren't the Marines technically part of the Navy? If that's the case does that mean Marine officer candidates attend the Naval Academy?

1. Yes,
All Marine Corp Officers who attend the Academy do so at Anapolis

At ROTC they are also part of the Navy...

They do have some course work that is specific to the needs of the Marine Corp, such as infantry et al.

3. Yes
Though the question has already been answered. I thought a thread full of "Yes" responses would look cool. I'm a dork. ;)

7. They are, however, a separate service from the Navy, but.
in the Depatment of the Navy. They report to the Secretary of the Navy through their own commandant, as I understand it.

8. Marine stands for:

My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment

...

of course Army stands for: Ain't Ready for the Marines Yet

10. The Marines are the Navy's Army
and in many cases part of the Navy's Air Force, too.
