Oh, the delicious irony -- gay Fox News Anchor
http://www.nyblade.com/2004/5-14/viewpoint/editorials/overcome.cfm

On a recent trip to New York, I visited a gay bar on the Upper East Side, where I met a familiar-looking man wearing an expensive suit and excessive makeup. After a drink or two, I realized that he was one of the star anchors at Fox News Network, that tool of the conservative right masquerading as a “fair and balanced” news operation.

He wouldn’t admit his identity, only that he “worked for News Corporation,” the parent company of Fox, so I played dumb and let him buy another round of martinis.

At 3 a.m. and after more than a few drinks, the closeted Fox star could barely balance on his bar stool.

His solicitations for a date became more intense and desperate. So I told him I was not single and, “not interested dating anyone in closet,” and left him wobbling on his stool.

Hmmm. Heavy makeup. Expensive suit. Just wait until Rupert and Roger find there are gay people working for Fox News, the Conservative Christian Anti-Gay channel!

Would this guy happen to have any priors with running over women in parking lots?

We report, you decide.

1. What is the point of outing someone?

4. Because by working for the right
he is assaulting the rights of gay people everywhere. Why cover for such a man?

...you would rather stoop to the level of those on the right, and use their tactics to out someone huh? Not very progressive of you!

On edit: typo

32. as much as I respect you, I have to disagree
after the Monica /whitewater investigation everything is fair. We got nowhere playing by the 'rules' alone. Go for the throat before we are redistricted into oblivion..

6. perhaps if you read
the article linked, you'll see another side FROM A FELLOW GAY MALE.

btw, i read your posts in your thread. i see nothing wrong with outing a public figure who contributes (directly or indirectly) to the detriment of gay people. and trust me, if he's visiting gay bars in nyc, he ain't THAT afraid of folks knowin'.

9. I did read the article
and I just don't agree. Things like this have a way of not stopping where we think they will. The people we think should be outed today, the people others think should be tomorrow.

2. Could it be ????

Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith was arrested by Florida police in November 2000 and charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle after arguing with another reporter over a parking space (both were covering the Bush-Gore Florida vote debacle).

5. OK, we all know it's Shep Smith, but....
...how many threads do we need on the subject anyway?

Shep's gotta live with himself and the fact that he, as a presumably gay man, works for some of the most hateful bastards on the planet. I think that's punishment enough.

12. Last Time I checked
FOX was working under the same anti-discrimination laws as the rest of us.

For a description of the Gay Conservative lifestyle during the Reagan years, read David Brock's Blinded by the Right.

18. Yep
and until very recently it was more like 8. New England has 5 of the states (all but ME), CA, NY, MD, MI, NJ, and HI are the rest. So it is actually 39 not 40.

20. The 14th should cover it
but we need a court that has the guts to apply it. But failing that, a national law would do.

30. Amen!
Live & let live!

Does anyone remember the attempted outing of a baseball player a few years ago? Not Mike Piazza!!!! This was an article, circa 2001? (memory fails me, but I think he is/was the sr. editor at the Advocate). Claimed that he was having a relationship with a well-known ML player, and was upset that the athlete wouldn't out himself.

I don't want to get another thread going on this, but I just think it's crappy to out someone who isn't ready for it.

he was just too respectful to women. in story, in just the basis to humanness of women. fox people though they talk family values are the crudest when it comes to women every chance they get. jut gotta put them in their place.

hm, well this is interesting. hope no one on fox reads, i am perfectly comfortable with sheperd living his life in peace, however he may chose

35. I have no problem with outing someone
IF they're publically anti-gay

I'm sure that Faux has gay people working there.

But unless the guy is publically a wingnut, let him be miserable in the closet

he'll come out eventually
