Whatever happened to the Saudis cutting gas prices...
to help Bush get re-elected? It cost me $20 to fill a 10 gallon tank today.

1. No longer matters....
- if they cut the prices, people call Shrubya on it for trying to buy the election.

- if they don't then people get even more pissed at Shrubya.

he loses either way, so they would rather make money than give the people a break!

2. They have to wait until the story has died down...
This is a typical tactic of theirs - if they get bad press over one of their shenanigans, they just wait a couple of months and continue with their dastardly plans.

Plus, the closer to the election the less time the 'bump' in Shrub's approval ratings from decreased prices has to decay back to his deservedly low numbers.

3. To be discussed in June.

Early June, as I recall. That will decrease prices in time for the election.

The increased price (decreased production) was discussed in April, and was intended to keep prices high through the summer.

5. S.A. is not the only deal maker in OPEC
In fact, pumping at capacity already, they really have no traction to move the price *down* except the will of the rest of OPEC.

I don't think they have a very willing OPEC to decrease prices. Everyone is nervous. Big profit front loaded is like an insurance policy against such horrors as nationalization of oil and serious conservation measures.

6. I heard earlier today - I think it was on Market Place - that OPEC...

would be meeting to discuss production increases that would result in lower prices. My guess would be that lower prices at the pump will still be a few months off, though still in plenty of time for the election. Uh, actually I guess I heard that yesterday, it being after midnight now. ;)

7. OPEC is virtually at full capacity and is 'cheating' by 2bn barrels

already...

Americans have no one to blame but themselves...

Sure, China is consuming...

But the big problem is U.S. consumption. Time to dump the SUV's and trucks (unless it's hybrid)
