More Nick Berg questions
I mean no disrespect to Nick Berg nor his family. May the souls of the thousands of innocents caught in this whole mess also rest in peace. As many here have written, there seems to be a lot about this beheading that simply makes no sense ar all. I watched the video, with the sound off, up to the point where the victim is tipped over and here are some observations that I haven't seen raised anywhere yet.

Identity
In the first part of the video, the victim identifies himself in exceptional detail, however has the family or anyone with real knowledge of Mr. Berg been able to confirm that the person in the video IS, in fact, Nick Berg? While one could understand a family's reluctance to view the tape, I've looked but can't find any reference to them making a positive identification.

Mr. Berg's father is reported to have sent the following email to members of the Yahoo-group who are in the radio-tower business:
"I am sorry to inform you that I just learned from the State Department in Baghdad, that my son, Nicholas E. Berg, was found lying dead along the side of a road near Baghdad. His body was discovered by a military convoy and identified definitely."

Can one infer that the identification was made by the military?
The family was apparently prevented from greeting the body on its return. Again, have they made a positive identification prior to burial?

Hairstyle
Let's also take a look at a couple of photos of Nick Berg. In each one his hair is cut very short, similar to a military style cut. Obviously, lots of people have their hair cut in this manner without being in the military, but with all the other oddities, it has to be asked. Was Nick Berg a military man?

Tattoos and Dog tags?
In one picture(#2) he appears to sport a tattoo on each forearm. (Crossed swords, maybe?) And in each picture he appears to be wearing a neck chain, with a tag of sorts visible in the #3 picture.
For those with the stamina to watch the latter part of the video, was there any evidence of forearm-tattoos visible?

Ref #3: http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040513/480/px10405132037

Again the question that comes to mind is - Was Nick Berg a military man? If so, for what branch of who's military?

Puzzling.....

1. I wonder whether an autopsy was done. It might reveal how he
was treated by his captors, and confirm decapitation as cause of death. It seems that autopsies are required in any homocide, and that the government would be especially interested in an instance of terrorist murder.

2. They'd pretty much need the head
to confirm strangulation, as that's where the most obvious signs would be. Ligature marks would probably be obliterated by the clumsy cutting.

I just hope the Berg family managed to get some tissue for an independent DNA test.

Somehow, I doubt that an autopsy on a headless corpse would have been much of a priority, and I doubt they'd have looked beyond the absence of a head to determine cause of death.

4. An autopsy is required by law in the case of murder
Even if the cause of death is obvious, an autopsy is still required and would reveal a lot of important evidence.

First of all, it would establish time of death, which is very important in a murder case. An autopsy would also show whether or not he was alive during the beheading. If there was blood in his lungs he was alive, if not he had been killed some other way and the beheading was just for shock and awe. Also some other types of test, such as DNA testing might be called for in order to positively identify that the body and head are from the same person and who that person really is. Contents of the stomach, would reveal the last time Berg ate and if he had been drugged. I'm sure I'm just scratching the surface here as to why an autopsy would be crucial in a case like this, especially if you were really concerned about catching the people who killed the poor fellow. But unfortunately, we all know Bu$hCo really isn't interested in bringing anybody to justice, they just like to pretend they are.

5. Nope.
Strangulation is determined by the lungs. That's my little knowledge, having seen several autopsies in my life.

I find it odd that his body was buried so quickly.

6. About the quick burial,
it's Jewish custom to, if possible, bury the deceased within 24 hours of death. So interring the body as quickly as the Berg's did was simply in keeping with their tradition.

3. pictures of ."...Berg were nothing like the man I met"
"The TV pictures and still images of a captive Nicholas Berg were nothing like the man I met. His skin was pale, his youthful beard thick and sculpted, and he seemed smaller."

7. Remember that he had not been seen for a month.
He was last seen on April 9, body was found May 8.

Human hair, including facial hair, can grow quite a bit in a month. I find these "anomalies" almost unimportant.

A person under stress can lose a lot of weight in four weeks, especially if they aren't being fed very well. And facial expression can dramatically alter a person's appearance.

A few years ago, I was sorting through some old photographs and came across one of myself at age 15 or so (roughly 40 years ago). Although I instantly recognized the other people in the photo, I didn't recognize myself at first. I showed the picture to my mother, and she recognized me right away, but not herself! After puzzling over this phenomenon for a minute or two, both of us discovered that the photo had been printed in reverse.

While I'm not suggesting this is what happened in the Berg murder video, I offer it as an example of how even a seemingly minor alteration in appearance can have a rmarkable effect on one's ability to "recognize" a familiar face.
