1. What's Your Point?
I do hope that you are not suggesting that because of his age, Justice Stevens is somehow unqualified to serve.

Because that would be a form of discrimination against someone based solely upon his age.

If you are lucky, you too may live to be the same age as Justice Stevens.

Would you want someone suggesting then that YOU are not qualified to serve?

What the hell is your problem?

Why would a Democrat be concerned with the old age of the most progressive Justice on the High Court? You figure it out and leave your assumptions on the right where they belong.

6. My "Assumptions onf the right"
I might be inclined to ask "what the hell is your problem", but I won't.

I do think, though, that YOUR assumption that I am "on the Right", if I understand those words correctly, is not only off-base, but may be a outside the bounds of acceptable behavior here on DU.

I am sorry that I implied that you might have a problem with someone being "older than the Pope", but I do confess that I don't seriously consider the possibility that * will be around to appoint a sucessor to Justice Stevens. (OK, * will be around -- but not in the White House).

Instead of making an assumption about me, you might have simply made your point.

3. Sheesh people are so quick to jump to conclusions lately
Looked more like he was saying that Stevens is older than he thought and notice the "send him your vitamins" in order to keep him around as long as possible.

4. Maybe he meant that Justice Stevens may not be able to serve
through another Bush term. Even one more reason to be certain to get JFK in office so he gets to choose the replacement.

Then again, maybe we can let Bush select Pickering for Stevens replacement.

5. The winner in November could end having 4 nominations.
Stevens' health is okay but not great. He is rumored to be holding out until after Bush's first term in hopes that his replacement will be picked by someone who is compatible. Ginsberg is also not in great health. O'Connor wants to retire and Rehnquist has a very bad back.

The winner of the 2004 race could end up having 4 nomination.
