Why does Drudge get such a bad name?
He provides a relatively decent service, and in my opinion, has spawned alot of the websites we value so highly. I know he can post some crap sometimes, but look at his website today. It has all of the leading Abu Ghariab stories and broke some of them.

5. Let me rephrase
I know he is blatantly right wing in his ideology, but many of us get a valuable amount of info from his website and he has been pretty consistent in posting anti-Bush stuff lately. I guess the main point I was trying to make is that his success has spawned many many websites which provide better news in a similar fashion, which is a good thing.

7. He's obviously trying to reach a broader audience
posting RW stuff all the time gets a little old.

14. well
the guy gets paid a million bucks a year to sit on his ass all day and read news and post links on his website.

I'll give him credit where credit is due. Considering 99.999% of websites don't make any money, he's very successful at getting people to look at his site by posting provacative content to drive up ad dollars for himself.

4. He's a conundrum to me.
He can be such a Repug loveslave, schlockmeister and slanderer sometimes. At other times, he sees abhorrent behaviour in the * administration and he calls them on it. If it looks really bad, he'll say so.
Not all the time, but quite often. And sometimes he's even the first one reporting it!

9. I think he is a person with a very strong set of beliefs
Edited on Tue May-18-04 06:25 PM by nosferatu
And no matter what will push them on everyone. It is hard to understand because sometimes he will disagree with something Shrub will do, and he will report it that way. I think his site is an overblown opinion column, where instead of writing his own stuff, he pulls articles from other people.

10. Agreed
From what I know of him, he is RW, but went a little rampant in his support to develop a niche and a name for himself and now is coming back to earth. I don't doubt he will vote for Bush and that he hates Kerry, but he is much more reasonable now.

11. He's a whore trying the other side of the street
The only thing he got right about Clinton was a story that was spoon-fed to him, pieces at a time so he wouldn't fuck it up. The people that fed him the story did so because they knew that Drudge is totally unscrupulous and amoral, whose only yardstick for good is "What's in it for me?" They knew that by feeding Drudge the story, it would be picked up by lazy journos who would make a story about the unconfirmed gossip, which would in turn make the story fair game for the "legitimate" media.

Drudge is a pipeline for sewage. Nothing more.

12. (to DRUDGE apologists: ) Is That You, DRUDGE?
(Along the lines replying to the occasional, all-too-frequent, Tweety-apologists:: )

1) DRUDGE's "decent service" is to his own self-interest, whatever THAT is.

2) As the offspring of federal bureaucrats, he might have been expected to have absorbed a certain concept of the broad good-intentions of the role of government. Instead, he used his secure family-economic background for his own selfish sense of entitlement.

3) Little, if anything, at his site is original, and is available at any number of other places.

4) Whatever his private life, he has sided with the Repuke oppressors of various Dem groups. The only civil rights he has cared about have been his own, when airport screeners thumbed through his magazines.

5) I have long guessed that his sources are a mafia of disgruntled employees sharing DRUDGE's whatever-private-life, who staff the mid-to-lower level of offices throughout the bureaucracy and the news magazines (Newsweek).

6) It's his wingnut SLANT.

Alrighty then, grabbing the asbestos suit now.

Yes, he is a scumbag. But not a 24/7 scumbag such Limpballs or Annthrax.

I think his little rants against * are pure narcisism. It's all a giant wankfest. He just want to show the world that he's not controlled by anybody

15. Because he's a craven little whore who pretends to be a journalist?
Even the stories he "broke" were stolen from other journalists (who did all the work). Ask Isikoff what he thinks of Drudge (and I'm no fan of Isikoff's, either).

18. He's not a little whore!
He's a big whore. One of the biggest.

That being said, he does put some news "headlines" on the site that are not right wing ass kissed blessed by the guy that talks to *.

There are no journalists anymore. There are op/ed writers on one or the other side of the fence, and there are people that write "news" who are beholden to Viacom and others for their meager paycheck.

Show me a "journalist" these days, and I'll show you a cheap whore.

16. Have you ever watched him?
He is smarmy with a capitol "S". He is in no way, shape or form a journalist. When his site makes a mistake, he doesn't put up a retraction, the story just disappears down the memory hole. Did you see any mea culpa for the bullshit Kerry affair-with-an-aide story? Hell no. I can't stand this jerk and I think it's too bad so many dumbasses read his website and believe the crap he writes. You gotta wonder what the world is coming to.
