Let A Thousand Recalls Bloom
Yes, I meant to make you think of Chairman Mao's famous quote associated with the start of the Cultural Revolusion. I did this because of the ultimate chaos into which that political movement descened, and because I think it's an apt title for what I'm proposing.

First, a question: Why are the established Democratic powers afraid to stand up and shout from the rooftoops: They Trying to Steal Another Election! Possibly because they never were willing to admit the first was stolen from them. Why that is is too complicated to go into here.

But the fact is: they are trying to do it again. They are trying to elect a governor of their choice with a tiny plurality of the electorate.

This is a recipe for chaos and anarchy, at least in California.

I want to suggest that the best approach for progressive Democrats (in particular those have not not "gotten over" the last presidential election), is to announced ASAP that there will be a recall election of any Republican who is elected, and it will be repeated until 1) a candidate to our liking is selected by a tiny plurality or 2) the current law is repealed.

What Issa has accomplished is a recipe for anarchy, and if that's what the right wants for California, we should oblige them until they cry uncle, or we triumph or we are ourselves obliterated from the American political landscape.

1. How about recalling Bush?
Is there anything in the Constitution preventing it?

2. The only mechanism for removing a president is impeachment
and I think that's a dead end.

I wish someone would introduce the articles in the House, but the mostly likely candidate (IMHO), Kucinich, is too busy with his ultimately quixotic candidacy.

3. completely against recalls
and think that the California law that allows it is downright stupid. it should be abolished after this fiasco.

there should be mechanisms to remove corrupt politicians, called impeachment. elections cover the people's choice, not recalls.

dem/repub/indep/green/whatever, recalls are, IMHO, completely wrong and should be abolished...

4. Thank You paulsbc...
I too believe that this is B.S!!! A small group of people should not have the right to overturn an ELECTION!!!
Corrupt politicos may be removed by the Impeachment process or voted out the next time around!!!

ABOLISH ALL RECALL ELECTIONS!!!!!!!!

5. How conveeeeeeenient
abolish the "recall" AFTER Conan the Barbarian sacks Sacramento..

It will not suprise me though, the repubes are famous for changing the rules to suit them and squealing like little piggies when someone challenges them on it :)

6. Shameless bump
(Is bumping now against the rules?)

I am curious how the Mountain/Pacific time lunch-at-DL Crowd (especially Californians) react to this idea.

10. well
I wish the courts would have done the right thing and declares THIS recall illegal, as it should not be possible for a small minority to do what is being done in California. But, they didn't. That doesn't change my stance, or the principle ....

7. Talking heads yesterday
most notably former Gov. Pete Wilson, kept saying over and over "Davis took a huge surplus and turned it into a huge deficit".

But...but...Bush did the same thing. Davis needs to say that over and over.

Most of the problems facing the states is Bush. When you cut taxes at the federal level, it gets pushed down. We watched the same thing under Reagan. The states were in crisis then too.

Unfortunately there is no strong message coming out of California yet. Bill Maher was the best and who hears that except us?

The focus group on George Stephanopolous Sunday was frightening. Not one person was going to vote against the recall. They wanted Davis to admit that he had done the wrong thing and that he would change. What exactly is he going to do?

9. Question for every GOPer who shows up to stump
What is your relationship, if any, to the Chenney energy cabal and the Enron comspiracy to manipulate the California energy market? And have you stopped beating your wife.

I had a chat with my wife about this and she thought it a non-starter. But frankling, as a former press flack and journalist, if the media aren't going to ask pointed questions anymore, why shouldn't we show up and start tossing out our own questions?

If nothing else, getting interviewed by somebody looking for a new angle would be a marvelous opportunity. I wouldn't consider it disruptive. I would consider it constructive media relations.

But I've always had a bad attitude (I work for <insert name of boss here> and the rest of you bozos work for me. (This is not considered a positive, career advancing attitued on capitol hill).

12. I agree....
... it is simply another case of fighting fire with fire. You cannot counter lies, innuendo and spin with pink tutu balance, and you cannot fight this recall bullsh*t with logic.

I should not be very hard to get the piddling signatures needed to force another recall and I would definitely throw my $50 into the pot even tho I'm not a Californian. :)

Two can play this stupid game, regardless of how ultimately stupid it is.
