He's a figment of Hollywood's imagination. A Teutonic demi-god with rippling muscles swathed in baby oil as shiny as a poison apple. A conqueror of men, and a master of women. A life-size Gorean warrior. And now he wants to be leader of men. A regular Horatio Alger story. Rags to riches! That's bullshit. He's being promoted to this position of Republican power as payment for services rendered. Not for being a superhero. He's no leader of men. He's an illusion, a figment of someone's imagination.
Image is everything in Hollywood. The truth is in the box office receipts. The fact that Arnold has successfully marketed his violent he-man image in this country is an indication of just how sick we Americans are, how obsessed with comic book figures who lack any substance. But the image is ficton. The reality of this so-called candidate is that he is nothing and has contributed nothing that makes him qualified to be the governor of California.
He isn't even a real person. He is a "star." That means he's a PR person's creation. There's nothing behind the image but an overdeveloped ego and shrunken genitals. What books does this man read? What kinds of movies does he act in? What political causes has he embraced? How has he used his celebrity status? He's as one dimensional as a cardboard cutout. A paperdoll.
And even feeling as I do, I would have shrugged and wished him luck if I heard he was running for public office in a fair and honest election. Like Davis did last November. Like Gore did in 2000. But this farce of a recall is nothing more than a thug's tactic. Nothing to be proud of to be involved in such a thing. The intent of the recall law was originally to allow the people to get rid of criminally corrupt and dishonest politicians. No one to my recollection has called Davis corrupt or dishonest. Ironic that what was once a progressive law meant to retain power with the people is now being used to "promote" corrupt, dishonest individuals like Arnold.
I'm interested in seeing his financial disclosures, how much he pays in taxes, where he invests his money, who contributes to his campaign. I want to know how many times he's played golf with Repub presidents. I want a list of all the drugs this man has ever consumed. Legal and illegal. How many times has he been sued? And why?
Why should this celluloid hero avoid hard questions about his ties to Bush, Cheney, Enron, Waldheim? Where are the fundies who screech about Hollywood morality and violent programming? Why aren't they speaking out? Republican hypocrisy is pretty important to me. Where's the neocons denouncing the mindless violent pornography, the flesh exposing exhibitions Arnold has promoted for 30 years?
Even Larry Flynt is more honest.
The fact that Californians want to join Texans and Floridians in destroying the country our forefathers built is hard for this west coaster to bear.
