actually, there was a lot of political streaking back in the 70's, and even today, masses of people gather nude to protest the fundienazis.

patriot act 2 is not far away. You can be stripped of citizenship for civil disobedience if pat 2 is enacted. It's ready to go after the next strike on American soil.

15. Parts of PATRIOT II are already here
I've heard they're sneaking lits bits and pieces in with every bill they pass so it never has to come up for a vote and, God forbid, be shown for the fascistic POS it truly is. And yes, you're absolutely correct that civil disobedience will get you labeled a "domestic terrorist" and then your family never sees you again.

I'll look for the link.

Bush signs parts of Patriot Act II into law — stealthily

O n December 13, when U.S. forces captured Saddam Hussein, President George W. Bush not only celebrated with his national security team, but also pulled out his pen and signed into law a bill that grants the FBI sweeping new powers. A White House spokesperson explained the curious timing of the signing - on a Saturday - as "the President signs bills seven days a week." But the last time Bush signed a bill into law on a Saturday happened more than a year ago - on a spending bill that the President needed to sign, to prevent shutting down the federal government the following Monday.

Patriot Act II Resurrected?

Congress may consider a bill that not only expands the government's wiretapping and investigative powers but also would link low-level drug dealing to terrorism and ban a traditional form of Middle Eastern banking.

The draft legislation -- titled the Vital Interdiction of Criminal Terrorist Organizations Act of 2003, or Victory Act -- includes significant portions of the so-called Patriot Act II, which faced broad opposition from conservatives and liberals alike and embarrassed the Justice Department when it was leaked to the press in February.

Today's the Day. The Victory Act also seems to be an attempt to merge the war on terrorism and the war on drugs into a single campaign. It includes a raft of provisions increasing the government's ability to investigate, wiretap, prosecute and incarcerate money launderers, fugitives, "narco-terrorists" and nonviolent drug dealers. The bill also outlaws hawalas, the informal and documentless money transferring systems widely used in the Middle East, India and parts of Asia.

9. A strike. A big, middle class, white collar strike.
Edited on Wed May-19-04 07:57 AM by AP
Since 99% of what the Republicans do is about exploiting the labor of the middle class -- ie, paying you less than what you're worth, and then taxing the hell out of what you get, and shifting all the value of the wealth you do create up the income ladder (where it barely gets taxed at all -- the best thing the middle class could do to make its voice heard would be to withhold what the Republicans covet: your labor.

That, and to stop buying shit (although the things the Republicans make the most money off of are things you have little choice about buying, like fuel, insurance, credit, etc.).

19. How about a dual-purpose strike/boycott?
General strike/gas boycott. We'll not only send corporate employers a message that we'll stand no more for their abuse, but also we'll be telling the oil companies that we refuse to be ripped off at the pump!

21. A lot of Americans (more than 1/5th) spend more than they make, so...
...if they didn't go to work and didn't spend money, they'd actually make more money than if they went to work and spent money.

That's a great society you're building when it's more lucrative not to work and not to consume than to carry on what you're doing.

13. stay home on those holidays where you're expected to travel
good idea. gas prices rise and fall around memorial and labor day.
they expect us all to buy the latest model cars, and drive them on specific weekends to boost the economy. staying home would take the wind out of some of their sales. very practical and easy.

14. Pre-November?
I think that if the goal is to be able to communicate a message of unity to the "undecided" voters, including "moderate" republicans who find bush obscene, and to speak to the people around the globe who are aghast at the violence and hatred of the bush administration, what is called for is a "Gandhi/Martin Luther King, Jr." -style prayer & meditation experience that closes Washington DC down for three days & nights. If thousands of people were willing to calmly and quietly fill the streets, and pack the jails to "over-flow," it would send a powerful message to humanity. Yes, it would likely create a severe back-lash from the likes of "Bull" Cheney, but I am confident that the military and police are beginning to see that his stance is unpatriotic and a threat to the Constitution.
