So my boss ordered me to go to the doctor.
I've had a "flu like bug" for a couple days now and my boss decided enough was enough.

So after my visit with Dr. D I'm sitting in the lobby lacing my combat boots back up when another patient in the waiting room ask me "yer a soldier?"

"Yup" I say "five years active duty and I'm a reservist now."

"Thank you" he replys.

"I get that a lot surprisingly."

"Yeah, too bad more people aren't supporting our troops."

"Well, I've got a lot of liberal friends who are against the war, like I am, but who are still very supportive of our soldiers. It the stupidity we're involved in that they hate, not the people trapped in it."

He went back to reading his paper. I don't think he knew how to deal with the "anti-war soldier" thing. Hoepfully it'll make him think. It'd be nice to have a small vistiry today.

I am also anti-war, but I'll be damned before I hold you guys responsible.

It's Johhny this and Johhny that and chukc him out, the brute, but it's the thin red line of heroes when the guns begin to shoot.

Thank you for your service.

5. Well now
I did not know this about you! I am happy to say thank you and very happy to hear that you manage to also get the anti war soldier thing out where it belongs. This little story of yours just helped me to make a decision I was struggling with. Thanks.

7. Do most of the other soldiers you are working with make this
distinction or not? Just curious.

Thanks. Hope you are feeling better soon.:)

8. I'm a reservist now...
...and I don't do any time in uniform so I don't think Ill be able to answer the question in a way you wanted me to. However in my lab I have several ex-military types and it's running about 40 - 60 those who understand vs. those who don't.

11. 40% is much larger than
it would have been for other wars, I think.

Let me add my thanks to you.

10. Question for you
It seems to me if I were a soldier (rather than a middle aged liberal woman) I would be PISSED that my Secretary of Defense would throw my fellow soldiers to the dogs to protect himself. That my Commander in Chief and Secretary of Defense would publicly state a policy (willingness to abandon the Geneva Convention) and then set events in motion to put American troops in the position of carrying out that policy and then use those troops as human shields so they can keep their jobs.

I say this because Rumsfeld and/or Bush could have stopped the public court marshalling of the few MP's at the bottom of the chain. I think about this every time I see either one of them on TV talking about a "few bad apples".

Are you, and/or the other military types angry that the absolute top of the military chain not only don't support the troops, they are far too willing to sacrifice them to protect their own sorry asses?

One more quick question - what does "vistiry" mean?

12. There are a lot of us who are pissed about it.
Edited on Wed May-19-04 10:20 AM by DarkPhenyx
There are other who are supportive of the war and pissed about how the soldiers, and veterans, are getting treated by the Administration.

The soldiers, and veterans, I have talked to are not that upset about the treatment of the Garhrib Seven. The general consensus is that these people are giving a very bad name to the American Soldier and need to be delt with justly but firmly and moderately publicly. If it is all done in secret then it will never fix the problems caused by the incident. Nor will it help prevent it from happening again. The conversation gets more complex as you start going up the chain of command and you would probably have to talk to individuals to get their version.

"Vistiry"? IS that one of my typos? Yup! I see it was. Should have been victory. I'm blaming this one on the meds. :)

Second off, you did a great job explaining your position to that person and I may steal your line. "It's the stupidity we're involved in that I hate, not the people trapped in it." :yourock:
