Wingnut gossip queen the-oldest-person-in-the-world-named-"Cindy" sez G.E. RUSSERT claims not to be pal-sy with his Meet-the-non-Journalist guests. Hmmm, then there must be some OTHER explanation...I'm THINKIN', I'm THINKIN'...

May 19, 2004 -- NBC's "Meet the Press" meeter and greeter Tim Russert just had an on- air flap. He supposedly took longer than he, supposedly, was supposed to with Secretary of State Colin Powell in an interview from Jordan. Having seen him at the White House, noting his often tri-weekly merry-go-round of faces, alternating Rumsfeld, Condoleezza, Cheney,
I asked how he handles tough questioning with what appears to be a friend or, at least, appears to be special access from D.C.'s VIPs. He answered:
"They're not friends. I don't socialize with them. I work hard. I get up early to do the 'Today' show. I write a book. I'm a father. I raise my kids. I don't party.
"I do research and prepare my questions. Sometimes they don't answer. Sometimes they won't even come on, like I wanted Rumsfeld last week. He wouldn't do it. But the public knows when they're avoiding issues. My father, Big Russ, knows when they're phonies. He tells me so."
Tim's just written "Big Russ and Me," about this special father-son relationship. It's a lovely book.
It does not necessarily answer my question. http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/tv/bal-to.media19may19,0,91057.column?coll=bal-tv-utilityCritic: NBC News is trying really hard to sell Russert's book
Baltimore Sun
David Folkenflik notes parenthetically in his Tim Russert profile: "It's unbelievable just how much time NBC News has devoted to Russert's book, including interviews on NBC's 'Today' Show, 'Dateline NBC' and at least three separate interviews on sister cable channel CNBC."
