1. No we don't have the most incompetent though at times
it does seem like we have a bunch of Barney fife clones running around out there.

As a veteran, I've never completely understood the automatic respect for Veterans. Not all fought in wars, not all are good decent people.

I knew plenty of selfish, mean, dirty-rotten sons-a-bitches when I was in that I didn't respect then and don't respect now.

I still fully believe that beyond basic human respect anything else is earned by personal conduct.

4. in theory, i understand it.......
i think...... it's supposed to be: we (civlians) should "automatically" respect members of the military because it's their job to risk their lives protecting me.

I'm down with that - but what I refuse to automatically respect is when soldiers are clearly NOT DOING THEIR FUCKING JOB! The kinda crap we've been hearing about is making me MORE imperiled, not less!

fucking fuckheads and the fucking helicopters they use to blow up newlyweds and kids.....

2. What Are You Talking About??
From the profanity in you post, it must be something pretty important.

Is it marriage you object to?

Jesus?

Our Troops?

What?

WHat am I missing here?

6. 40-45 Iraqis, mostly women and children, attending a wedding ceremony were
killed by one of our helicopter gunships when they started firing into the air as is Iraqi custom at these sorts of events.

7. No Flaming From Me
It's not the military as a whole that's incompetent, it's the leadership.

This applies to both the officers and the NCO's.

The top officers are loyal to Shrub, and the top NCO's sit and watch as the troops are killed, or maimed for the rest of their lives.

It seems that the military leadership is more concerned with showing it's loyalty to Bush, and not concerned with the results that that has on the troops that they command.

So don't count on Sanchez, Abizaid, or Miller, they won't do the right thing. Forget about Myers, he's so deep into this that he can
never be clean.

You can still support the troops, but make it clear that you will only support those soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors that abide by the Geneva Conventions and who are courageous enough to come forward and tell the truth. There are at least four so far, the 3 named in General Taguba's report, and Sergeant Provance who came forward inspite of threats by another of Bush's Generals, and told the truth about an investigation by MI that only wants to blame MP's for the torture and abuse.

Support them, they deserve it, as do many others who aren't named.

Just the opinion of an old soldier

8. i sympathize a bit with your view, but......
.... i'm tired of the "bad apple" defense.... in large part because of the actual saying about bad apples....

it's beginning to seem to me as though there's been enuff "bad apple fuckups" to start wondering seriously if the whole barrel is bad.... i suppose one can blame "a few bad apples" forever, if one really wants to, but at some point many people will stop, and call it a bad bunch....

i'm on the side of the newlyweds on this one...

10. Then
With that belief we're all part of this fuckup. And as long as we sit on our hands and go marching in anti-war protests, hoping that we can change things with an election process that is already tainted, we are all to blame.

Tell me something what are you and the newlyweds prepared to sacrifice to put this country on the right course. Are you ready to take another life, are you ready to resist, are you ready to give your life.

I am, I'm ready to do all that is needed, but I will not paint all of the military with as broad a brush as you are willing to do. I know people on active duty, while some support Bush, not all do.
