Update on Conn. Governor Rowland's Possible Impeachment
A boatload of info today on the impeachment process of Connecticut Governor John Rowland. We have a lot to be proud of in recent years -the state has brought you George HW Bush, George W Bush & Joe Lieberman and is the long-time home of Ralph Nader - don't know if he was born here.

You may have to do a free registration to read it all:

Faceoff Over Rowland Testimony
Lawyers Question Impeachment Panel Subpoena

May 19, 2004
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer

Gov. John G. Rowland and the House impeachment committee edged Tuesday toward a constitutional confrontation over the legislature's ability to compel Rowland's testimony.

The governor's office quickly responded to a legislative subpoena for Rowland's testimony with a thinly veiled threat to challenge the demand as violating constitutional principles.

Governor Shifts Story On Enron Phone Call
May 19, 2004
By JON LENDER, DAVE ALTIMARI, And EDMUND H. MAHONY Courant Staff Writers

In a secret statement to state investigators, Gov. John G. Rowland testified that he probably talked on the phone with former Enron Chairman Kenneth Lay in the fall of 2001, a private admission that goes beyond his public statements that he "may" have participated in "conference calls" with Lay.

Rowland made his statement under oath as he gave a four-hour deposition in January to lawyers from the chief state's attorney's office, which is conducting a grand jury investigation of the state trash authority's loss of $220 million in a disastrous energy deal with Enron.

McKenzie Testifies About Gifts, Cottage
Tells Panel About Meeting With Tomasso, Patricia Rowland

May 19, 2004
By MARK PAZNIOKAS, Courant Staff Writer

Gubernatorial confidant Jo McKenzie testified for four hours Tuesday about free cottage renovations and other gifts at the center of the impeachment inquiry of Gov. John G. Rowland.

She told House impeachment committee lawyers about meeting at Rowland's lakefront cottage in Litchfield with the governor's wife, Patricia, and a prominent state contractor, William Tomasso, she said.
