Anyone else just hear the debate proposal floated on Randi Rhodes?
I think this was the point:

Caller said the democrats debated 10 times over a period of months. Why won't Bush and Kerry now.

Caller said just get a committment from a facility to hold the events in and issue invitations to the candidates.

Randi said she's contact the League of Women Voters....

1. Because Bush is a coward
and his handlers are too-they have then bully pulpit and won't debate until they HAVE to and only then under their own terms.

2. We can call Bush a coward for months until he accepts.
Everyone knows that's the reason he won't debate, so Kerry should ask him to debate every chance he gets under his own terms, and then call him a coward every time he refuses.

"You can find time to raise 200 million dollars at fundraisers, clear brush on your ranch for a month, but you can't find time to debate me?"

4. And the terms will be shit like the Larry King show and a debate...
Edited on Wed May-19-04 04:44 PM by Zinfandel
with a republican moderator like "Arnold" had...the chimps handlers will make sure they have all the questions in advance, etc. etc..or Rove and the other handlers won't agree to it..

Because they know Bush can fuck up any situation...and of course like in 2000 the handlers will play down Bush as a debater and Kerry as the best debater in the world (like they did with Gore).

And then even if Bush just shows up, they'll say and spin "Bush was the winner of the debate" and the republican owned corporate media will say, "YUP!"

3. Wonderful idea... set it up, issue invitations....
.. Kerry on stage next to an empty podium.

.. The empty podium to match the empty policies, empty promised (empty heads).

Priceless

5. The one on one debates won't happen until after both conventions....
....probably another reason Junior wanted his coronation as late as possible.

Key importance here is not as much WHEN the debate takes place, but HOW the event is handled.

This must be a REAL debate. No scripts. No teleprompters. No earplugs. No prearranged questions coming from BCE handpicked corporate whore journalists. Keep McUseless and Gillespie out of it, and let the League of Women Voters handle the whole damn thing, like they used to .

Then watch the Chimp crumble.....and look so stupid that no amount of media whore spin can say he "won" the debate - like they were able to get away with in 2000.

6. If there IS a debate ... there will be only

ONE.

Bush is amazing coward. They know they have the most to lose. They will try to drive a VERY hard bargain to debate.

The Kerry campaign should take the discussions public. They need to make Bush look like the coward he is. In fact, Kerry should get started NOW telling everybody that Bush is afraid to debate him without pre-scripted questions, teleprompters and ear-pieces.

Kerry will rip his head off and won't seem smug about it like Gore did. Nor do I think he would "back down" after being told he was too aggressive. Bush has a record to run on (away from) now. Before all Gore had to pick on was Bush THE PERSON.

Don't expect more than one debate. There will be two at the very most.

7. Debate an empty chair. W called kerry after Super Tuesday - made the race
between them - debates are a reasonable expectation.
