Josh Marshall rips the War-Hawks for their new blame others strategy.
<snip>
Now, another related point: the increasing velocity and ferocity of war-hawks trying to shift the blame for their own goofs by inventing a new stab-in-the-back theory (nicely patterned on the original one from Weimar Germany) to cushion their consciences from the brunt of recognizing the dire pass to which their own foolishness and reckless zeal have brought their country.

The chief example I've seen -- though there must be many others -- is John Podhoretz's column in The New York Post from last Friday, May 14th.

3. And how about this :
"They didn't trust the people -- which might be an epitaph we should return to."
==========================================

Just as they didn' trust the people to count the votes in Florida in 2000? Because they were "liberals", they couldn't be trusted. That's why they had to get the Supreme Court to settle it.

6. Exactly ~ That was Bush*"s first most blatant LIE
His entire campaign theme was "I Trust the People" The very first opportunity he had to prove that trust he made the statement "Only the machines can be trusted because they are objective while people are subjective" America just stuck their heads a little further up their ass and were silent.

7. I don't know if it was Marshall or Atrios
But one of them predicted a week or two ago that the administration would react like a drug abuser to an intervention. First, denial of any problems. Then, the "if there's a problem, it's with everyone else phase," marked by bitter recriminations and deflecting of responsibility. I think we're there now.
