I don't listen to the regular radio talk shows, with the exception of my clock radio, which is set to wake me up with the local right-wing talk station. It's very effective because the pair who are on in the morning are VERY annoying "John & Ken" type "drive-time" personalities. I only hear 2 or 3 minutes every morning, but I tell that they are like Drudge - right wingers pretending to be impartial.
This morning, the alarm/radio blared on with them expressing their outrage that NBC news had aired a tape of an Iraqi saying "What happened at Abu Ghraib was worse than anything Saddam ever did" They said "This is us now, not Rush or somebody trying to lead you in some direction, it's us saying this - this is unconscionable! I don't know how Brokaw can leave the studio at night." Do they mean how does he leave in good conscience? or without getting KILLED? I kind of read an implied threat into that.
But the thing that also bugged me was that they were outraged about comparing Saddam & the torturers, the automatic assumption being that every "plastic shredder" story about Saddam is true, and every "shredding" was ordered by Saddam himself.
As far as I know, Saddam was no Hitler, but the media seems very determined that I believe he was. I know that about 100,000 of the people in the "mass graves" were insurgents, incited to rebel by George "I got your Back" Bush Sr. in 1991. As for the others, I don't know the story.
But we are expected to believe that SADDAM HUSSEIN is personally responsible for every violent death that ever occurred in Iraq, but that George Bush is not responsible for the rapes, killings and torture at Abu Ghraib?
I'd really like the straight story from the mass media on all the "victims" of the Hussein regime - how they got dead. But of course that never seems to happen, does it, so I gotta wake up to two morning bozos, outraged that NBC ran a tape of a LOCAL IRAQI expressing his opinion equating MURDER AND TORTURE with MURDER AND TORTURE.
And I'm supposed to believe that they're NOT leading me in some direction a la Rush?
This is the kind of programming that scares me the most - rightwing lunacy masquerading as impartial, mainstream, "lighthearted" commentary.
Anyone know this show? I just turned it on to try to figure out the call letters, and they're making fun of evil "union overlords" forcing SBC employees to strike and not get paid.
Okay, ... It's called the "Armstrong & Getty Show" on 910 KNEW in San Francisco. Anybody know it? Are all the drive-time shows on AM this bad?
