We must never put ideology above the common good.
The neocons have done this. At the expense of many of us. Just about the entire population of the United States. The past three years have been a product of neocons furthering their ideology. If we ever have control again, we must not allow that to happen. While I believe we have the common good of people at heart, we must never let our ideology completely take over. Those are my words of so-called wisdom for the day.

2. Agreed but..........
we need to be ruthless when it comes to campaigning.
I think Kerry should do what THEY do in their ads;USE BUSH'S OWN WORDS AGAINST HIM.Michael Moore has a great part of F-9/11 with Bush in the classroom on 9/11 looking dazed and confused.Kerry's team should lift it(the idea)and use it in an add. Then we'll see and hear the neo nazi cons scream bloody murder. And what a lovely sound that would be.

4. I agree.
I am not talking about this with respect to campaigning. I am talking about policy. No I agree we have to fight tooth and nail to win now but we must never do what the neocons have done.

7. Your idea that the "common good" ...
ought be paramount to an individual's self interest and liberty.

8. Well...
...what I meant was that I was talking about how we need to make sure that we are not responsible for people's suffering, both individually and collectively. I don't know if I can articulate better, but, I was simply trying to say that we cannot make individuals suffer for an agenda the way Bush and the neocons have done.

9. question for you: what is the common good?
are you talking about Americans? Westerners? The whole world?

Part of American ideology is that anyone can, and should strive to, become rich and famous. But there are too many people in the world and too few resources for us ALL to live like Americans (or close). Should we all give up owning cars and homes and computers and make sure everyone has the same standard of living?

10. Look...
..I guess I was sort of talking out of my ass. I was trying to say that we should do what's right for America, whatever that may be. And not interfere in the rest of the world's affairs the way Bush has.

6. Being dogmatic is not a part of my ideology.
Edited on Thu May-20-04 11:18 AM by cyclezealot
Is it the case with anyone here...Is fighting for the public good being dogmatic....
Further..Neocon's might not be dogmatic,...maybe their ideology is intentionally/unintentionally allied with the interests of their fundraisers.Well, guess that motivation might be dogmatic?
