I know people who have had to wear a colostomy bag and it's not fun. Sean's colostomy bag is not something that we should be making fun of. We should write him letters and let him know that we sympathize with his ailment and we should let Fox know that we appreciate the steps they've taken to accommodate Sean and his colostomy bag. I'll also drop a line to my local paper letting them know how brave it is of Sean to go on the radio and TV airwaves day in and day out with his colostomy bag and how much we appreciate that Alan Colmes is big enough and supportive enough of Sean to empty it when needed.

It really is not funny.

However, there is no way I will ever believe that Sean wears a colostomy bag because I *know* all of his *&#^!* stays inside of him.

but it isn't shameful or humorous. Lots of people wear colostomy bags. While Hannity is a kool-aid drinking whore, I don't know that he holds people's disabilities against them, which would be the only reason that this rumor would be significant. If it is true that Hannity wears a colostomy bag, he could actually do a lot of good by coming out of the closet about it. And if it isn't true, then the real shame would be an attempt to disgrace him by suggesting that a physical disability is shameful. If you want to belittle Hannity, pick on his politics, not his ostensible disability status.

Do you think Hannity is the only person in the world who wears a colostomy bag? There are thousands, many of them who even vote as Democrats. But with the infantile, offensive attitude on display here, if I were one of them, I'd think twice before casting a vote in November.

Certainly there are enough grounds to criticize Hannity that we don't have to focus on his health concerns or disability.

We should be more supportive of Sean and his colostomy bag. It's gotta be tough for him when he's going off on some rant and making up things about Howard Dean or whoever and hearing the bag make that little farting gas sound that the colostomy bag makes that Sean or whoever the person is who happens to be unfortunate enough to be wearing the colostomy bag has no control over whatsoever. I apologize for causing anything to happen. If I could take it all back I would. I hope Sean Hannity doesn't feel uncomfortable. I never intended to make anyone feel uncomfortable. OK maybe I did but I don't intend it anymore. In fact one of my best friends just had his colostomy bag removed two days ago. He's still in the hospital. Honest to God. I don't have anything against anyone who has a colostomy bag. I hope that Sean Hannity understands that too. His colostomy bag does not diminish him in my view in any way whatsoever. So, please - If my starting this thread has made anyone feel uncomfortable I apologize.

I ask, because I have a few friends with disabilities; one's blind, two are in wheelchairs, and another lost a leg, to name just a few.

TO A PERSON, they all insist on being treated like regular people. They insist on our ignoring their 'challenges', and get EXTREMELY pissed when we look at them in any way resembling pity.

THEY usually start with the jokes. Both about us, and about themselves. If we start one, and try to self-censor it, THEY insist on us finishing it so they can come back with an even better one.

To them I ask: "Did ya hear the one about the three-legged pig?"

To those who are disabled, and have not yet been able to attain that level of self-confidence, I apologize.

But as I said above, my disabled buddies are some of the funniest folks I know. Probably helps 'em get through it all. And I take my cues from them. They are pretty enlightened folk, and they DEMAND not to be treated differently, or special.

If Insanity bashes people with disabilities (as most of the rabid right do) while having one himself. In this instance, it is certainly worth pointing out his hypocrisy.

If (as Cleita suggests in post 4) he brought it upon himself due to, shall we say, lifestyle excesses. We know perfectly well that he rails against such excesses each and every day, so the hypocrisy there would be self-evident.

Otherwise, what's the point, other than to further humiliate everyone else who wears a colostomy bag?

The people forced to wear them are generally already so self-conscious of them already. Anyone dealing with that form of disability sees a thread like this and it makes all those nagging self-doubts explode.

I have a disease that someday may require such a device and I don't find it offensive, for the reason I explained in my post. I'll continue the discussion if I FEEL like it unless the mods decide to put an end to it.

Franken did a bit called something like "countering Hannity's lies with lies about Hannity". Today's lie was that Sean Hannity wears a colostomy bag. It was a lie. Franken was making a point through humor about a lie that Hannity had said about Howard Dean. It was a lie. Hannity doesn't wear a colostomy bag. Well, at least he hasn't admitted to wearing a colostomy bag. There's so much talk out there today I don't know what to believe any more. But anyway, to all of you colostomy bag wearers - I'm sure that you're nothing like Hannity. There might be a little bit of O'Reilly in at least one of you though. ;-)

at fist i was taken back that al franken would simply slander or joke about hannity wearing a colostomy bag, but this explains it and i feel much better. although some of the comments in this thread are a bit over the top. there is no reason to make fun of someone's medical condition which they have no contol over imo.
