Another * book coming out soon -- this one is authored by Maureen Dowd
NEW YORK, May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Maureen Dowd, the Pulitzer Prize-winning
New York Times columnist, has agreed to partner with G.P. Putnam's Sons for
her first foray into the book publishing world. Her debut, entitled
BUSHWORLD, is a powerful look at the current administration. Neil Nyren,
Senior Vice President, Publisher and Editor in Chief of G.P. Putnam's Sons,
has acquired world and audio rights from literary agent Esther Newberg of ICM
and it will be published in hardcover by Putnam in August 2004. Its release
is timed to coincide with the upcoming Democratic and Republican conventions
and the home stretch of the run for the Oval Office. The Berkley paperback
edition will be published in 2005.

1. First ten chapters---wardrobe. :-)
Just kidding; hope it's good--Maureen has some talent in there somewhere, and it's fun when she dusts it off.

4. Me-OW! Hope She Has Her Claws Out
MoDo is great when she's not trying so desperately to be clever.

I've often thought the main reason she writes her column is so she'll get invited to all the parties.

Seriously... she somehow seems like someone who cares DESPERATELY about being popular.

5. Interesting.
I've never noticed any desperate attempts to be clever. I've read her for years. Considering her position, I'd wager she has no problem getting invited to any parties. However, that said, I'd still welcome any book being published that exposes bush & friends as the parasites they are. Even if that book was authored by someone who wasn't clever enough to put on my list of invitations.

8. You Think Her Tortured Metaphors & Analogies Are ACTUALLY Clever?
Usually, most of her pieces are padding placed around some lame-ass pun.

Only occassionally does she manage to hit a home run.

More often then not, she's trying to tear down someone whose excellence makes her feel inferior.

Remember when she pushed the Lie about Hillary's Bridal Registry?
Or her retarded column about Clark's wearing a SWEATER in NH during the winter (he MUST be trying to appeal to women).
She lashed out a Gore for wearing sweaters and earth tones too, IIRC.
Then there are her many bitter columns slamming Clinton. I wonder whether she hates him because he DID make a pass at her or he DIDN'T.

And to clarify my already clear post:
MoDo likes her job more for the parties than for any desire to be a journalist. And using the word "journalist" in the context of MoDo is kind of silly.

11. I didn't say that.
I did not say that I thought she was clever. I did say that in all the years I have read her articles, I've not come across any desperate attempts to be clever. Those are two very different things. I'm not comfortable attempting to try to apply motives to other people in cases such as hers. There's always the risk of error .... such as saying that I must find her clever, or making claims about her desire to be invited to social events. What I do find her to be is sincere and fairly consistent. It doesn't mean that I agree with her all the time, or even often. Just that I respect the quality of her work. I also understand that others may not like what she says.

12. You Are Right! Assigning Motives To Others Is Risky

but it's the way I reconcile MoDo's talent & how it has come across over the years.

:)

Every once in a while she writes a REAL doozie.

10. Mo Do is still
the dragon lady breathing fiery words whimsically as it suits her. Arianna Huffington, however, is an equally cunning linguist *, pens better columns and books, and best of all has seen the light and joined our ranks. MoDo may have found her sea legs in the assailing crew* against Bush NOW but, as with Woodward, I remain suspicious of her. Think I'll save my money.

* how ya like my attempts at cleverness? }(
