Thank GOD for Nancy Pelosi
All I have to say is thank God for Nancy Pelosi! She really slammed it to bush today as she always does. I really don't understand how people here can have so much disdain for her. She is the most liberal house leader we have EVER had. She led the fight against the war in Iraq NOT Kucinich, she is a staunch supporter of gay marriage and universal healthcare. She opposes Taft Hartley and she supports basically everything that the people on this board support and at the same time she has had the brains to keep our fractured party more united than it EVER was under Gephardt. I don't normally post anything too nice about our Democratic officials but this is one Congresswoman who deserves a lot of praise!

17. She backed Homeland Security and didn't help the opposition to the war
DEnnis and Barbara Lee were the leaders of that and Pelosi supplied minimal support. She's a conservative who doesn't think people have the right to leave "under God" out of the Pledge.

3. Yea, Pelosi is really good
I don't understand the negativity of some here either. She is definitely as liberal as they come, and I think she has done a great job as minority leader.

Top Democrat berates McDermott for pledge omission
By Alex Fryer
Seattle Times Washington bureau

WASHINGTON — Forget Republicans. The sharpest rebuke of Rep.
Jim McDermott's omission of the words "under God" in
the Pledge of Allegiance has come from the leader of his own
party.

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-San Francisco, summoned the
Seattle Democrat to her office Wednesday to personally scold
him for improvising when he led the pledge in the House
chamber.

Speaking to reporters in the Capitol yesterday, Pelosi, the
highest-ranking Democrat in the House, said: "I asked him
to come to meet with me on that subject, very directly, to
express the concern of colleagues and my own concerns about
the presentation of the pledge."

"I completely disagree with Congressman McDermott's
presentation of the pledge to the flag," she said.
"House Democrats expect the Pledge of Allegiance to be
delivered as it is written, with the phrase 'under God,' and
with respect."

6. i disagree. pelosi is only speaking out now because of shrub's low poll
numbers.

i have seen her on the tube so many times, uttering inane, nonspecific pablum which generally kind of/sort of, in a really nice way, opposes "president" bush.

the low point was pelosi, looking like gloria swanson in the late years, kind of/sort of/not rebutting shrub's last SOU speech.

spare us such "leadership"

8. are you people kidding me?
of course you have to watch what you say at a point when your opponent is much more popular than you. ALSO what idiot would want to make an issue of the pledge before the elections? Give me a break. This is why there will always be a Green Party..unless you are lockstep with the liberal 18% of America on every issue that ever comes up..you are a lying PNAC whore.

14. umm...did i call you a lying PNAC whore? didn't think so...
...my definition of leadership would involve speaking the truth to power even when the one in power has high poll numbers.

that's why it's called LEADERship...it involves being out in FRONT, not somewhere in the middle of the pack.

i think we (dem party) would gain considerable votes if we simply showed some consistent guts and stood up to the repuke strong arm tactics on a consistent basis, not just when polls make it comfortable to do so.

by the way...lighten up. :)

11. She has been tough since day 1.
Have been very impressed with Pelosi. She may not be as strident as some would like her to be, but she has spoken up when it mattered, which I felt Gephardt was very reluctant to do. Sometimes you have to pick your battles. In the scheme of things the Pledge wasn't that big an issue.

12. also
Pelosi never said she supported under god in the pledge...she said the caucus was to recite it as it IS not as they want it to be.

15. the first Minority leader of the House
why is she getting so much stuff from people? She is pretty diplomatic, but also seems fiery at times. Gebhardt could have been more fiery, too, but you still have to be able to work with people.

19. It's about time1
sorry but I am not so enthused. Pelosi like a lot of the other dems went along with the Bush aenda for much too long. Now ofcourse it's "safe " for her to speak up and the mood toward Bush and the war is beginning to swing the other way. She can come out swinging both clubs but the democrats in congress and the senate have to do more than confront Bush verbally. What they are all engaigng in is not leadership- more like opportunism and sheepleism. But I suppose that's what it takes to be a politician.

20. ANN COULTER ACCUSED PELOSI OF TREASON, OF COURSE
Coulter was on Scarborough last night. I was looking for the Cartoon channel for my kids and I was jolted to fear by the sight of that emaciated creature. She said that Pelosi was a traitor, Kennedy was a traitor, etc. Scarborogh, of course agreed with her. Scarborough asked another news reporter if he thought Pelosi was treasonous. The reporter, said "Is this a serious question? Of course not!" Pat Buchannon was on there too and he said it wasn't treason. Of course Coulter said that anyone who does not support the war is a traitor because it gives "aid and comfort to the enemy." I'm sure the repubs want to redefine treason to get rid of any First Amendment protections. What a crazy wacko.

:silly:

21. Pelosi voted against the war, and speaks out against it.
Which is a helluva lot more than Gephardt did, or does. Which is also a helluva lot more than a certain senator from Mass. did or does.
