So! We think we are "Big Puff Adders" here when we post! But,
we know that "Newbies, Oldies, and "those in the know" will pick our bones and tear our posts apart at the drop of a dime. After awhile you get the drift of how to "fawn" and do "submission" and how to attack.

It takes awhile, but without the "oldies" how would you know what's "Up and Down?"

3. I'm A Nice Guy
I may disagree with a lot of you since I am pretty much DLC, but I'm a nice guy. I won't ever be rude. And I love all Democrats. :)

6. Seems to me you're either "DLC"...
...or you're not.

- I used to 'love' all Democrats...until the DLC 'leaders' came along to divide us with their pandering to the RWing. I have a question and perhaps YOU know the answer: why do DLCers call themselves 'new' Democrats? The implication here is that there was something wrong with the 'old' Democrats. Is the DLC trying to start a 'new' party?

12. I don't want to be crude or offend my DU Gay friends, BUT
"New Dems" is DLC in Drag. They change the clothes and come in under a new guise.

Again...I apologize to DU'ers who might be offended. But, even they might get what I mean. Maybe a better more acceptable way of saying it is: DEMS in Halloween Costumes! One, doesn't always know what's underneath, but it's amusing and it will get you "candy."

17. New Democrats
Hey Q,:hi: , I don't know who coined the term. I believe that those who formed the DLC felt that old Democratic solutions had not proved successful at the polls (1984, 1988) and that in general many Americans had a bad opinion of old Democratic policies. Consequently, the term was coined to show that DLC Democrats were offering more moderate Democrat solutions to problems, and were strong on national Defense. It was suppose to show that the new Democrats no longer accepted the old Democrat policies that the answer to every problem was big government and a weak defense.

That's why I like us.

Unbridled submission to authority is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad and very dangerous.

7.  KoKo---high school lives within us all..............
Many are still in high school (obviously) but it seems it's the old "in groups" mentality. A group will arrive and later decide to "rule the school" by bulling their way around and stomping on those in their way----it's so sophomoric. Unfortunately, DU has lost such a tremendous amount of real great people who brought so many references and resources to this board because of this childishness. Once they descend, the people fight back and are eventually removed because of doing so (inappropriate behavior). I would love to see the adminstrators declare an amnisty and invite all back---hell, they can pull the plug on the truly awful if necessary. It got particularly shitty during the primaries where bands of "some candidates" actually became six time worse than any Nazi republicans of the worst ilk. They roamed in bands and preyed upon posters..old, new, etc. And now that their candidate bit the dust, they disappeared as fast as they came. In their wake, they got many DUers banned and no one caught on to what was going on. They left this website quite weakened, sadly. They drove away many financial contributors and the like. That is why I would like to see the administration invite the oldies back......they need to realize that some 'groups' basically invaded this board and set them up and then abandoned them.

14. I don't really see DU as weaker. I was here over a year and a half
ago...maybe two years...could have been that long.

Anyway, I don't notice a discernable change except more posters, more features, and more support outside of this group in the articles, media coverage, etc. about what a gawdawful mess Bushco has created.

I know primaries was a bad time...hopefully people who enjoyed DU will come back eventually. Maybe they already have under new names. Hard to say.

Glad primaries were over early so we can hone our message and rally the forces to get this thing done in November

15. Yes, Somehow High School haunts us forever. Especiallly when we have
an idiot who never grew up, like Bush in the White House. He brings out the "frat boy/girl" in all of us, and really takes us back even further to jr. high when you had all those hormones raging and were just trying to find your place in the world. His idiocy/immaturity is pushing us all back into some time we thought we had gotten through and survived, but there it is BACK!

Not all of the oldies were as stellar as you are saying though, Babs. I would like to see many back, but I think they are here under new names. Some were honestly "disruptors." And, I do give Skinner, et al credit for allowing many here back when they've been banned a couple of times or more.

However, is the price such a compromise that they are never the same?

I don't know the answer.

9. KoKo, I think you are right
Ya don't get away with much on this board. The vipers with facts will come after you.

I like it. We are well regulated in many ways. We are vetted. It comes from our disdain for the despicable press in this country which lets BUshCo get away with absolutely ANYTHING, and lie constantly.

13. Jacobin, the best thing is when DU is "unfettered in the harness" when
we really pick apart speculation and go at issues as a team. I think that's what you mean in your post, and I agree!

My post, however, was targeted at the "Dark Side" of DU. For the posters who don't get into the info digs, Google Searches and Philosophical Battles. The ones who sincerely come...and what happens to many of them...

It's different for each of us. I was trying to get at "Dark Side."

23. Yeah. There is some of that
I tried to avoid those posts and I like to let the tinfoil hatters simmer for a few months before I take a look at the outcome. Sometimes, they come up with interesting theories that bear looking into. The "scandalous" "believe anything", "no insignificant point unimportant" breathless hooha that is the formation of those theories is just too much for me.

Anyway, I know what you are saying.

16. Help Wanted: Bodyguard For Newbie
Adorable smart ass rodent, who just made his first post today apparently will need the protection of a battle hardened veteran until I get my post count up and you all realize how adorable I am.

Warning to whoever takes this job. I am tainted by having owned a real brick and mortar type business for the last 15 years, but hey its in Portland Oregon so I tend to view John Kerry as a Right Wing fascist. I voted for Dennis Kucinich for President and Extremo The Clown for Portland mayor in the primary this week. I mean if you get past the big feet his positions are really good, and Extemo's aren't bad either.

Warning 2: I went to the moderator thread to register for a watch me list when they closed that other thread before I could place this ad. I saw a posting on how to be an "infiltrator" and damn if I don't look just like one, liking Dennis K and all. So I am not certain what to do. I guess I could let one of you sniff my butt, my dog has great confidence in this character test.

You're too damn clever to be an infiltrator! I've been here at DU since almost the beginning.. there is a new trend, for sure, of distrusting the newbies. Don't take it personally, now that DU has burst into the right-wing hate webrings, it's all the rage to infiltrate us!

Hello from a fellow Pacific Northwesterner! :hi:

p.s. Hope you don't mind, I'll pass on the butt sniff thing.. I'll take your dog's word for it.

It took me a week after I found this site to get up the courage to make a post earlier today. Had I read that other thread first I think I would have chosen lifetime lurker, but once you fall in the lake you might as well stay in and enjoy the swim.

21. Hang in there Buck Rabbit. Take the punches and keep at it...
Sincerity shines through, here on Du, but persistence and checking the posts to see what gets locked is a start. If you aren't a Freep or "other type disrupter" and sincere you will be here for a long time...but I can't guarantee. Just read the rules..and when you get lots of posts folks will kind of get where you're coming from.

I can't speak for Admins, here. They own and run the Board. They are responsible for content....and some of us have had "to do's" with rules in the past. It's all "individual," it seems.

Welcome to DU! :hi:
