A New TOP SECRET TORTURE PRISON! (NBC News)
Edited on Thu May-20-04 08:52 PM by Beetwasher
New front in Iraq detainee abuse scandal?

NBC News exclusive: Delta Force subject of investigation; Pentagon official denies abuse

BAGHDAD - With attention focused on the seven soldiers charged with abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison, U.S. military and intelligence officials familiar with the situation tell NBC News the Armys elite Delta Force is now the subject of a Pentagon inspector general investigation into abuse against detainees.

The target is a top-secret site near Baghdads airport. The battlefield interrogation facility known as the BIFEis pictured in satellite photos.

According to two top U.S. government sources, it is the scene of the most egregious violations of the Geneva Conventions in all of Iraqs prisons. A place where the normal rules of interrogation dont apply, Delta Forces BIF only holds Iraqi insurgents and suspected terrorists Ebut not the most wanted among Saddams lieutenants pictured on the deck of cards.

I think we're seeing a coordinated and steady leaking to various press sources of damaging info to the admin. 1st the NY'er, then ABC, now NBC. It's like someone's spreading the love. I believe this might be coordinated and in fact a move by some to take these fuckers down.

35. Probably others, too
Protectors in the military who don't want to see a bunch of soldiers in their 20s take the fall for bushco.
I'd bet they're pretty disgusted by now. Knowing about their convenient placement in proximity to contractors after they'd been lied to about how long they'd be there, how welcome they would be, etc. Upper military ranks protect their soldiers.

32. Not Powell
I don't give Powell any credit. If he had ethics, he would have resigned. Resigning would have damaged the legitimacy of BushCo. Instead, he continues to hang on and defend them.

9. Everything we need to know about George Bush...
We learned when he blew up frogs in TX. A child animal torturer is an adult psychopath.

We have been saying it and saying it. We have shouted and screamed. The man is a psychopath and so that's his administration.

19. WE DESERVE TO GET OUR ASSES KICKED.
Edited on Fri May-21-04 12:33 AM by AngryWhiteLiberal
The America I knew when I was young actually stood for something better than what the average Banana Republic could come up with. America USED to be a shining force for idealism and the notion that we rise above the fray in times of trouble.

I have never been so ashamed to be an American as I am now. I want nothing to do with being associated with torture (even of the real bad guys), because once we stoop to their level...WE ARE NO LONGER the America of our forefathers.

Sadly, I'm seriously considering leaving the country and revoking citizenship. It's a time of conscience and not a time to look away.

How am I to look my children in the eye and tell them that Americans torture, sexually assault, and kill needlessly in the name of "information gathering"?

20. I knew as soon as the first pictures surfaced...
this is the type of story that will have legs. I told my husband from day one this is Bush's Blue Stained Dress.

Torture
Any mention of weird sex
Humilation

These are the themes of the stories that American's love to hear about, and hear and hear about. (along with shark attacks, and Jon Benet and Laci Peterson tales)

Forget all that other illegal/corrupt/kickbacking/looting treasury/jacked up stuff this administration has done going all the way back to Iran Contra (yes,it's the same fuking administration)- so many American's just yawned, it really wasn't that interesting, ho hum.

Now - torture, sex, weirdness, bullying - that's something every American can understand and be somewhat intrigued by. (Sick as that may actually be) So folks, I believe there will by legs to the story and even more and more (some true, some not true) stuff coming out.

For the record, I'm having a hard time feeling any support for "The Troops". I'm embarassed and ashamed of my country's actions and my heart breaks at the death and destruction this administration has wrought.

I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for karma to balance the scales here and Bush's* black karma has had it coming for awhile. I hope that the public's interest in the abuse at the Abu Ghraib prison will result in Bush* losing the election.

21. Yes, I Agree, This Is What It Takes
and that is a sad, pathetic commentary on our country.

I too am embarrassed and ashamed that it had to take visuall images of the absolute worst of humanity being shoved down our throats in order to shame the country into getting rid of a gang of criminals.

Struggle for power in Military. Neocons versus Military. Problem is that those waging the battle are lower in rank.

Some are trying to take down the Neocons who created this whole mess....

If they lose. We lose.

30. Yup, Clash of the Titans
We've got some very heavy players on our side. I think most of this is coming from the intel community where many of the most powerful players are people who's names and faces none of us would know. Strange bedfellows indeed though.

23. It's unbelievable....all the while GWB is acting like we went there to
put an end to the torture rooms.

I cannot believe America invaded another country and tortures
its citizens. This is not the America I want to live in. This
is all so scary.

This administration and its handling of most everything has either
been inept, despicable, or downright vile.

Edited on Fri May-21-04 09:16 AM by Tinoire
Before being accepted for DF training you have to 1. have a proven record of following orders without questioning them & 2. take a psychological test designed to see where you draw a moral line- what they are looking for is that you don't.

37. "I believe this might be coordinated, and in fact a move...
by some to take these fuckers down." My husband and I were discussing this last night. It really is starting to look that way. It seems to me the Military is trying to take Rummy down - there's mounting evidence that the order to commit torture leads direrctly to Rummy, and the White House. The press now seems to take turns releasing new information that is damaging to the Bushits. Next day, that station will have a new replacement White House Correspondant, but that only lasts a few days. Then, there's the CIA, which has become a virtual sieve. We may just end up waking up from this nightmare yet. It is so hard not to gloat...
