John Cornyn-R TX and the Patriot Act
says he will vote against sunsetting it, and that the best evidence that the Patriot Act is good is that we have not had a terrorist attack since it's implementation.

You know, I have heard the vague argument about why Bush is strong on terrorism explained as the absence of a terror attack since 911 on this soil. And believe it is happenstance that something has not happened, confirmed by the fact that the government continues to give us warnings about an attack (including one today about suicide bombers, always good for some daily fear). But I had not heard before a tie-in with why repressive, civil-liberty destroying Patriot Act Sneakin-and-Peakin has prevented terrorism.

If the idea is that being able to enter one's home without permission, spy on all one's records, including bank, medical, etc without permission or a court order, probable cause, etc, has allowed us to ferret out all the terrorists, then let's drop all pretense of calling this a democracy anymore.

robbed, not having guns is a good thing because it keeps ones home from being attacked. Great logic. (Edited to add, yet another brilliant Texan in the mix of politics. God, I so want those idiots out of my state and my country.)

2. Funny, seems to me...

Funny, seems to me that Bush is the only President in US history to be in office during ANY foreign terrorist attack on US soil. Ever! (Oklahoma was domestic terrorism. Pearl Harbor was an act of war. Other examples?)

So, there not being ANOTHER attack since the unprecedented one and only attack isn't exactly a Bush bragging point.

Maybe it's just me?

(Edit: spelling.)

3. When I was a kid at camp I made this knotted leather bracelet
called a bear scare. When someone asked me what it was, I would say, "A bear scare."

When they said, "There are no bears around here!" I said:

"Then it works, doesn't it!"

Cornyn's argument is like my bear scare.
