Helen Thomas - Message To Kerry: Time To Protest War Again
June 30 Power Handover Perfect Time To Break With Bush

WASHINGTON -- Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate, is doing better in the polls and has a slight edge over President George W. Bush.

But one step he should take to dramatically frame his candidacy would be to make a total break with Bush's failing policy in Iraq.

Kerry, who first came to the national political scene with his anti-Vietnam war mission in the 1970s, should concede he made a big mistake in supporting the invasion of Iraq and blame it on Bush for giving him false information about Saddam Hussein's alleged weapons of mass destruction.

Kerry has a great opportunity coming up to make that break -- on June 30 when a U.N.-created caretaker Iraqi government takes over sovereignty of its country.

16. that horse won't run
whining that he was lied to--that is.

It was obvious that it was a bad deal and that Bush had ants in his pants to bomb the hell out of a country that was NOT a threat to us at all. We knew, and do not tell me that Kerry did NOT and if he did NOT I would have to call him rather naive and dull, which he is not.--Supporting a unilateral invasion on evidence that was at best, wobbly , circumstantial, and containing no facts. Byrd knew--Blix knew and simply asked for more time--Bush invented the immenent threat lie then

and no one had the balls to investigate further and call him on it, except for a few brave souls? No way do I believe KErry was the victim of Bush's lies. I wasn't and I am only a common man. There were millions, and millions like me that knew.

He voted to give Bush the blank check and if he could not parse through the lies, investigate furter, have doubts that does not say much for him as a leader

Helen is right--and we should get out of there. Well, we are in there now, so the Kerry wisdom goes, so we may as well scoop up and anchor a little of the spoils for the United States, now that the damage is done.

Sorry,I just do not let Kerry of any of them who voted this politically, off the hook. He played the game knowing he could fall back on the old "victim" of lies, role. They all did. I think Fritz Hollings is the only one who has admitted his vote was a mistake.

8. Wonder how many rabid Kerry supporters will now denounce Helen Thomas?
:eyes:

(Of course, I'm talking about the anti-leftist anti-dissent Kerry moles -- er, supporters -- not the more reasonable majority of those who want Kerry to win.)

10. Hell, even Colin Powell admitted the war was based on lies
So he's got his perfect opening.

If we're there because of lies, why are we STILL there?

11. Helen must have missed Kerry's call to investigate the lies last summer.
It was right before Joe Wilson wrote his editorial which Kerry was well aware of at the time.

Unfortunately, alot of statements Kerry made throughout 2003 that were tough on Bush were overlooked by most of the press in their effort to ignore him and marginalize him as a candidate.

12. Kerry needs hire Helen as an advisor and dump the DLC.
Or, whoever the birdbrain is that's advising him that we need 4 years to give the Iraqis their country back. Well, let's hope it's some birdbrain advisor and not Kerry himself.

13. Dump The DLC?
What if Kerry agrees with the DLC? No indication so far that he doesn't. Seems to be their boy.

15. You noticed that too?
Kerry seems to be taking his dancing orders from the DLC. Or, perhaps, tiptoing would be more apt.

17. I HOPE MR KERRY IS LISTENING.
Edited on Fri May-21-04 12:08 PM by mzmolly
That would be the time for Kerry to acknowledge the truth that Congress and he -- and the entire nation -- were misled by the administration's claims that Saddam has both weapons of mass destruction and ties to the al-Qaida terrorists. The facts show that these claims were false.

The only question is whether the CIA made a good-faith mistake on those points -- or whether high Bush administration officials pressured the CIA to fabricate those findings and thus provide an excuse for Bush to order an attack on Iraq.

Kerry should declare that if he were elected president, he would set a timetable for gradual withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, with the pullout complete by January when Iraqi elections are to be held.

Such a bold move by Kerry would show courage and it would blunt any political appeal that Ralph Nader's tough anti-war rhetoric may attract.

Adding, I think Kerry is very thoughtful, and I expect he will "listen." Heck he met with Nader ;)
