MSN / Slate: "Rape Rooms: A Chronology - What Bush said as...
...the Iraq prison scandal unfolded."

http://slate.msn.com/id/2100014/

This may have been discussed on DU when it originally appeared on MSN / Slate on May 5th, but in light of today's events I thought it might be worth revisiting and bookmarking.

A few quotes:

"Iraq is free of rape rooms and torture chambers."—President Bush, remarks to 2003 Republican National Committee Presidential Gala, Oct. 8, 2003

"One thing is for certain: There won't be any more mass graves and torture rooms and rape rooms."—Bush, press availability in Monterrey, Mexico, Jan. 12, 2004

"Saddam Hussein now sits in a prison cell, and Iraqi men and women are no longer carried to torture chambers and rape rooms …"—Bush, remarks on "Winston Churchill and the War on Terror," Feb. 4, 2004

"Our military is … performing brilliantly. See, the transition from torture chambers and rape rooms and mass graves and fear of authority is a tough transition. And they're doing the good work of keeping this country stabilized as a political process unfolds."—Bush, remarks on "Tax Relief and the Economy," Iowa, April 15, 2004

Oh wait...

Gee, why is this hell in Iraq happening again?

Why does 50% of the public not care?

4. “Afghan Massacre: The Convoy of Death.”
“Afghan Massacre: The Convoy of Death.”
Why have US television stations refused to broadcast this documentary?
The film has been broadcast on national television in countries all over the world and has been screened by the European parliament. Human rights lawyers are calling for investigation into whether U.S. forces are guilty of war crimes. But no U.S. media outlet has broadcast the film.

More Agents Track Castro Than Bin Laden
On C-SPAN I just saw 2 Senators call this:
More agents track ‘Americans on vacation’ than Bin Laden.’ Senators tells of Americans distributing Bibles 4 years ago, in Cuba, are tracked down and fined $10,000 for taking a trip to Cuba. (Instead of tracking down terrorist money laundering.) The Senators clearly say this is to help Jeb Bush remain Governor of FL and to allow GW Bush win FL next election. It has nothing to do with making America safe from terrorists or finding who funded the 9/11 attack.

Sen. Max Baucus, the top Democrat on the Senate Finance Committee, requested the figures, which showed that at the end of 2003, OFAC had 21 full-time agents working Cuba violations and just four full-time workers hunting bin Laden's and Saddam's riches.

"Rather than spending precious resources to prevent Americans from exercising their right to travel, OFAC must realign its priorities and instead work harder to keep very real terrorist threats out of our country," said Baucus, D-Mont.

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, the chairman of the tax-writing Senate panel, agreed.
