Chalabi stage being set.
Now Robert Dreyfuss at Tom Paine reports that a junior staffer at the American Enterprise Institute — who just left a post at the Pentagon's Office of Special Plans — has let the cat out of the bag. Chalabi is in fact being groomed by the Pentagon as the future leader of Iraq, being made to look palatable to the Iraqi people by making him out to be anti-occupation.

1. This is exactly what I thought
when I first heard of his "run ins" with the occupiers. Pieces of shit - both sides. I just hope that the Iraqis won't fall for it.

2. I saw yesterday that the Iraqi's don't hold him in high regard.
His disconnect with the CPA might change that though.

4. Thank God that Iraqis are stupid
otherwise they'd see right thru this charade.

Of course, since they figured out right away that the "war" was about grabbing their oil, maybe Iraqis are not as dumb as the administration thinks they are.

Maybe the administration is as dumb as it thinks the Iraqis are.

11. Like Dhalgren, this was my first thought--that Chalabi needs to LOOK
as if he's independent or even antagonistic to the US.

If we need another example (of course, we don't) of how *BushCo NEVER ever backs down or admits mistakes or gives up on any worthless goal, here it is. Chalabi is the US's last hope of not having to give up on its plan to completely privatize the Iraqi economy and keep it open to looting by foreign (US) companies.

Some erstwhile supporters of the Iraq invasion are now talking about giving up a lot of goals and radically lowering expectations if the descent into chaos is to be halted. It's a thought. But IMO not one the * gang will ever entertain.

I recall * and gang repeating over and over (ad nauseum) that "those people" don't understand anything but force, that there was no reasoning with them. Pure projection. They are describing themselves.

With every new example of their intransigence, I am more fearful that even an election that ousts them will not be enough. (I tell myself to snap out of it--I'm way too prone to examine worst-case scenarios. We'll know soon enough.)

3. Yeah, but
then are they going to tell the American people that they're putting a spy for the Iranians, who supposedly put American troops in danger with the information he passed on, in charge of Iraq? Or do they say, nevermind, we were kidding when we said that Chalabi was a spy?

5. They will let (they hope) the Iraqis put him in.
They are distancing themselves from Chalabi - and are willing to do whatever it takes to make him look like USA opposition. including accusing him of spying. Don't forget that the * Administration hired Chalabi knowing that he faces prison for fraud if he steps into Jordon. They thought that Chalabi would be loved by the Iraqis. Turned out that Iraqis do not love us and anyone that is connected with our government.

10. They'll be high-priced lobbyists by then. What do they care?
;) Actually, it would be brilliant of them if this was their evil, evil plan. I'm not sure they're quite so brilliant. But just imagine it: they lead the world into thinking there's a breach, because Chalabi lied to them about WMD and the post-war scenario, is cozying up to Iran and is dropping Israel. Then what if Chalabi actually does gain popularity and get into power? What's to stop him from then dropping Iran and cozying back up to Israel and making Iraq corporate America's playground? :scared:
