has always been a proud conservative tradition. I believe it smacks of feelings of inferiority. And helps explain the appeal of dimwitted Bush. I don't know why people are so proud of not being well read or well educated. It is not a virtue. It does not make you more honest or more ethical. Nor is the reverse true. But those who are intellectually curious do tend to have a much wider frame of reference on the world. I think GWB is just lazy. And Hannity and Limbaugh are strictly about the money. They'd become communists tomorrow if the money was there. Educating themselves is not part of their equation.
wow, i didn't know that, i dropped out myself (don't have anything against people not going to college) i went on to get certifications and a decent job that way.
i really didn't know neither finished. they basically have no qualifications for what they are doing other than they can get on the air and blab half truths and mischaracterisations.
We all know BushCo and the repugs want to do away with paying for education. Hannity and Rush's unending assault on the educated is a way of fattening up their prey for the kill--the final legislation that will eliminate funding.
I'm reading Newsweek now and there are two relevant articles: "One in four workers earns $18,800 a year or less..." and "College Tuition: Gumption Won't Cover It".
Both articles are related. The bottom line is rising costs at colleges (47% in the last decade)and declining state and federal appropriations are creating a shortfall of $3000 to $6000 a year between the amount available for federal aid and the actual cost of public and private college tuition.
Newsweek says that only families making more than $75k are seeing their children earn BA's--only 21% of low income people complete BA's.
21. Bush again pointed out his C average in a commencement speech
The GOP message these days implies that too much education isn't a good thing. Maybe it detracts from the macho image they desparately wish to portray.
