http://www.moveon.org/front/Lady Liberty hooded in political ad
The main target of the ad is Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. It begins with the narrator saying that something has gone "terribly wrong" in Iraq. As the narrator speaks, the image of the hooded statue appears.
As that image remains on the screen, the narrator notes that "it's been reported" that Rumsfeld "initiated the plan" that led to abuses in the Iraqi prisons. That refers to a story this week by journalist Seymour Hersh in The New Yorker magazine. Hersh wrote that "the roots of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal" lie "in a decision, approved last year by (Rumsfeld), to expand a highly secret operation ... to the interrogation of prisoners in Iraq." The Pentagon has dismissed Hersh's story as inaccurate.
The image then switches to a photo of Rumsfeld standing with President Bush, and the ad ends with the narrator asking "Why hasn't George Bush fired this man?"
