Attn: Berg researchers -- new tidbit in NYT
Edited on Fri May-21-04 08:35 PM by grasswire
Look at this:

The former officials said that memorandum was explicit in advising that if someone were involved in interrogating detainees in a manner that could cross the line into torture or other prohibited treatment, that person could claim immunity only if he or she contended that the prisoner was never in United States custody.

Does this explain the denials that Berg was ever in U.S. custody??????????????

Note: corrected title and link -- originally I had a CNN link, but the NYT is the source.

1. Are you suggesting...
...that Berg was tortured by the US?

God, my wires are all crossed and shorting out now.

5. Why not suggest that -
I wouldn`t put anything past our government- they didn`t have a problem killing 3,000 people on 9/11 , so why would they get squeamish about torturing and killing one citizen? These assholes make the old Soviet Union look like a church camp.

15. John fund tried to hide behind Berg on Zahn
Edited on Sat May-22-04 01:42 AM by Must_B_Free
It appears more and that Bergs beheading was manufactured for a right wing talking point and perhaps to hide the fact that he was tortured. Imagine him coming home in the midts of this torture scandal with a story to tell as an American who was tortured.

3. no
Does this explain the denials that Berg was ever in U.S. custody??????????????

Why would it? He was already dead when they first started making the claim that he was never in US custody. I think it's fairly obvious that they are trying to make this claim to explain why he was detained to begin with and why he was held for so long... "not our fault, it was them thar stoopid Iraqis."

7. Not only that, guard uniform spotted near end of film
Check near the end of th tape. Watch closely at the blur on the right side of the tape from 13:46:00 to about 13:46:24. At 13:46:16-19 you can clearly see the left pants pocket of someone and the pocket has a flap just like those of the prison guards.

12. Oh yes...
They are researchers in the same sense that I am an astronaut.

Which is to say that, under the influence of certain psychedelic drugs and interesting psytrance music, I have occasionally entertained fantasies that I am an intergalactic traveler.

The primary difference is that I come down from it and feel like shit the next day, whereas the "researchers" only continue their massive google abuse.

14. I don't know what to make of the Berg case
And yes, some people let tenuous leads and wild theorizing take them astray. But to denigrate anyone who tries to correlate various reports and look for inconsistencies (yes, using google among other things) as hallucinatory is unfair and unnecessary.

If you disagree with people, you should argue the merits and non-merits of their case, not attack them personally. Bad research is caught by peer review, not ad homnieum.

Not to mention the interesting hermeneutic approach.
