A tidy raid on Chalabi's office
I don't have pics available at the moment, but; has anyone checked out the pictures of the "raid" on Chalabi's office? The tidiest raid I've ever seen. They broke a water glass on his desk, but left his framed picture of himself propped up nicely for all to see. The turned over the small white plastic end tables (I won't comment on the fact that this guy had the matching Wal Mart patio furniture as the prison, despite his $350,000 mo budget) -- what, the couldn't see what was under it? Even after the supposed ransacking, Chalabi's office looked no worse than my kids bedroom on any given day. The whole thing stinks to high heaven.

1. I don't believe this is reverse-psychology.
Chalabi is being accused of giving secrets to Iran.

Iran is Iraq's enemy.

I don't think this situation will make Chalabi popular, or that someone in the US govt. would think that raiding Chalabi's house and accusing him of giving secrets to Iran would make him popular with Iraqis.

5. it's reverse reverse psychology
They know that we know that they think they had Chalabi and...I get confused after that. But it involves Nick Berg, too, I just know it.

By the way, to the original poster, where is this info that the raid was "neat" coming from? I've read the exact opposite.

10. CNN showed some video this morning.
There were pictures in the paper yesterday. The office was a virtually empty room, with one of those cheapo pressboard snap-together desks from K-mart, and two plastic patio furniture end tables (same set as the white Abu Ghraib chair). Nothing else. A potted plant, I think. I'll try to find the pics online, but if I can't, I'll scan the newspaper photo and post it.

11. this is what I was remembering
Iraqi National Congress spokesman Entifadh Qanbar, speaking to CNN from Washington, said the compound was raided "in a very savage way.... Doors were smashed despite the offer to unlock it. Computers were smashed. Even pictures on the wall were smashed. Even his holy Koran, his personal holy Koran was taken as a document."

Either way, I just don't see the neverending spiral of conspiracy behind this. The US got duped, and when they finally got smart they went after his stuff in order to assess the extent of the damage. I suspect this is all part of the investigation to figure out who told him what, when, and who he passed it on to.

3. This doesn't pass the smell test...Chalabi is still on the Council isn't
he? So..if he was thought to be passing info to Iran...why not replace him and even jail him? We still rule there until June 30th. (and after but don't say anything)

This is all toooooooo convenient. He and the cabal have a plan that is unfolding..we have not seen the whole plan yet.

9. You're right...at this point, he should be treated as traitor
But instead, all they did was cut off his allowance. He's a free man, and he'll even be on teevee this weekend. Passing state secrets to an "enemy" and he's walking free? COME ON!

4. That's precisely what I believe

It should put today's buddies on notice. If you're lucky enough to be involved with a BFEE venture, you're toast. At some point in the future, if you have the ability to finger a Bush, you're toast.

8. Chalabi is making the talk show circuit - this smells like a set up now

Neocon Lets Cat Out of Bag
Robert Dreyfuss
May 19, 2004
http://www.tompaine.com/articles/neocon_lets_cat_out_of_bag.php

Michael Rubin—a young staffer at the American Enterprise Institute who’s just left the Pentagon, where he played a small role as a neocon cog in the Office of Special Plans war machine—let a herd of cats out of the bag about his favorite Iraqi phony, Ahmad Chalabi of the Iraqi National Congress.
snip
Well, says Rubin, who served as one the Pentagon’s liaisons to Chalabi, that’s exactly what they want you to think:

“Much of the information he collected was to roll up the insurgency and Ba'athist cells. It caught people red-handed," said Michael Rubin, a former Pentagon adviser who is now at a conservative think-tank, the American Enterprise Institute.

"By telegraphing that he is not the favorite son of America, the administration will bolster him, showing he is his own man."

12. I was confused but I now agree it smells. What got me was
Chalibi's woe-is-me on Nightlne yesterday. His bemoaning the destruction of his grandfather's picture stuck me as very odd and sealed my opinion that this smells. He has other residences outside Iraq so why would he bring in seemingly irreplaceable keepsakes into a war zone? Its pure propaganda.
