2. Cnn reported that she did not attend the graduation in AUSTIN
She goes to UT in Austin. She's supposed to have dinner with the folks. Maybe she didn't go b/c of security. CNN reported that her name was announced at the ceremony and she did get her degree in English. Didn't Bush fall off of his bike today?

3. Momma and Poppa weren't going to show up and be
proud of her, so what reason did she have to attend?

I used to think the Reagans were dysfunctional, but they look like the Waltons in comparison to Bush.

9. No Big Deal-The Real Ceremony Is Tonight
Edited on Sat May-22-04 06:15 PM by salonghorn70
Lots of students skip the day events. The individual colleges have ceremonies during the day where the actual diploma is handed to the student. The real ceremony is at 8:00 tonight outdoors in front of the Tower. A very moving ceremony. The Tower is bathed in burnt orange and the ceremony climaxes with the singing of The Eyes of Texas.

13. actually they said her name wasn't read at the graduation
my guess is that they didn't want her to get booed either. The administration is terrified of any uncontrolled public gathering involving the President or anyone associated with him.

15. This Was Not Graduation
The day ceremonies are not considered "graduation." These are ceremonies held by individual Colleges. They are largely ignored by students. If you have not said that you will be in attendance at the day ceremony, then your name is not read. So it would not have been anything that school officials would have decided to prevent booing."Graduation" is generally considered to be the night ceremony. The night ceremony is the one with a Commencement speaker. Individual names are not read at the night ceremony. What do I have to do to get all of you to understand this? Sing The Eyes of Texas?:)

19. Was your father running for re-election to the presidency, while...
... using his own wife in internet ads to tout his devotion to education?

21. lol...no, and the secret service wasn't involved either
I had finished up my last few credit hours at a school close to home, and briefly toyed with the idea of drving back for the ceremony. It was about a 750 mile drive. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble. They mailed me my diploma anyway, I wouldn't have gotten it at the ceremony regardless.

I skipped my 8th grade one, too. I just thought the whole thing was silly.

18. My mother could have guilted me into this in 30 seconds or less.
College graduation is symbolic, and a it's a very big deal, especially when your father's latest re-election ads focus on your mother, touting your father's committment to education.

Either Jenna's a lazy-ass ignorant-of-the-family-business brat, or Laura and George have no balls as parents.

That's my take on the whole thing, anyway.

I shouldn't be too judgemental of her though - 'cause that's exactly what happened to me - lol!
