Moore's 'Fahrenheit 9/11' Has Hollywood Buzzing

"I think it will be hugely successful," said D.A. Pennebaker (news), veteran documentary director whose films include the Oscar-nominated 1992 election campaign saga "The War Room." "It's going to get a lot of publicity."

In "Fahrenheit 9/11," Moore takes aim at Bush's handling of Iraq (news - web sites) and the war on terror and traces links between the Bush family and prominent Saudis including the family of Osama bin Laden (news - web sites). It was greeted with a rapturous standing ovation at its Cannes world premiere, but not everyone was impressed.

Dan Barlett, the White House communications director, was quoted by the New York Times last week as saying of the film "it is so outrageously false, it's not even worth comment."

Also critical was the review in the entertainment industry journal Daily Variety which called the film a "blatant cinematic 2004 campaign pamphlet" and said it "fails to provide any hard facts or make any incriminating connections that a reasonably informed person doesn't already know about."

"fails to make any incriminating connections that a reasonably informed person doesn't already know about."

So reasonably informed persons already know about Bush's incriminating connections?!?

10. You're right, that quote is ridiculous.
That critic seems to be saying because reasonably informed people know Bush is a criminal, no one should make a documentary about that.

2. What did you expect Bartlett to say?
"Moore has us dead to rights. We are in the midst of planning a mass Seppuku of everyone in the administration, to be held in The Mall, on a national media feed."

As for Variety: Bite me, Eisner buttboys.

4. And we're surprised by this?
Eh. They will try to tear him up just like they've done to every other truth teller. Problem is there is getting to be just too many of them.

I can't WAIT to see this film. They are shooting for a July 4th weekend opening in the US. That would be great.

5. Puh-LEEEZE let that film be released domestically before the election!!
Somehow I think once that happens it will be worth PLENTY of comment. And backpedaling, and backstabbing, and a hearty helping of back to Crawford, TX. :)

13. Heh, well if it's so outrageously false, it should be easy to refute then.
I don't know how the WH can get by with these adjectives to answer simple "yes" or "no" question.

Question--

Did Bush skip out of a year of Nat'l guard service?

"It's a shameful accusation." No, it's not--it's a flippin' yes or no question. Say "no" under oath and take the consequences.

Did the Bush administration make Al Qaeda a top priority before 9-11?
"We couldn't have known they would fly planes into buildings." No . . . that's the answer to "did you know they would fly planes into buildings?" That's not the question that was asked.

Did Bush every use cocaine? The media won't even ask that one . . .

8. from the nyt review-
In particular, the movie's second hour is carried by the wrenching story of Lila Lipscomb, a flag-waving, self-described "conservative Democrat" from Mr. Moore's hometown of Flint, Mich., whose son, Sgt. Michael Pedersen, was killed in Iraq. We watch Mrs. Lipscomb, who by her own account "always hated" antiwar protesters, come undone with grief and rage. As her extended family gathers around her in the living room, she clutches her son's last letter home and reads it aloud, her shaking voice and hand contrasting with his precise handwriting on lined notebook paper. A good son, Sergeant Pedersen thanks his mother for sending "the bible and books and candy," but not before writing of the president: "He got us out here for nothing whatsoever. I am so furious right now, Mama."

.....
and

Subtleties and fine distinctions are not his thing. That matters very little, it turns out, when you have a story this ugly and this powerful to tell.

If it isn't worth commenting on, why didn't he just say "No Comment"?

14. Please remember Dan Barlett was the same guy who
laundered bush's Texas Air National Guard records - a bit of trickery in which several pages of his records were spotted in a trashcan by a lieutenant there. Pages were excised so that there wouldn't be anything potentially embarrassing to the (then) governor.

Just remember the name. Remember the deeds. Consider the source.

Now THAT piece of crap was shot FULL of lies. I've never seen Fahrenheit 9/11. But I did go to a College Republicans "Fahrenheit 451" book burning back in the day.
