BIG irony in Protest Warrior poster vs. Pfc. Lynndie England "leash" photo
As I checked out the Protest Warrior site (being discussed in another thread here on DU), I noticed the right-wing anti-protest-protest poster depicting a Middle Eastern woman on a leash -- and I made the immediate visual association with the image of the notorious Abu Gharaib "leash photo."

I'd say that this is more than a little bit ironic.

1. It's quite sad, in a way....
Setting aside the other aspects of Saddam's Iraq for the moment, the poster suggests, ironically, that by our wars, we're freeing Iraqi women from the burqa, and yet, the reality is that our buddies, the Saudis, are the ones with the religious police, while Iraq was almost universally secular, and may well not remain so with the government likely to eventually assume power.

Even in Afghanistan, war there has likely made women less safe and more oppressed. There are continuing reports of women and girls no longer free to go to school, burqas reappearing in areas controlled by the war lords, and lack of security contributing to harm done to women, including rape, if found outside their homes.

Think this bunch's overall grasp of the facts is sadly lacking.

2. This is just heartbreaking
This is such a mean and violent world. How can anyone find justification in such brutality? (rhetorical question)

It just makes me incredibly sad.
