39. For those lurking Freepers who wish that AAR would die...And
For those who wish AAR would crash and burn because they didn't do things the way you want...

AAR is doing well.

They will continue to do well,

AAR will be successful because we need a liberal voice. There isn't a prescription for the perfect liberal voice we need a voice. Though you may not like it you should respect it.

I know some folks have been secretly wishing that AAR would fail because they didn't do things a certain way, they didn't hire veteran talk hosts, they aren't liberal enough, they aren't serious enough, they aren't funny enough, they aren't like Rush, or beause they aren't like Democracy now.

You have to respect the fact that they did their own thing and they are making it work. Maybe their success will bring success to the veteran liberal hosts out there. So don't wish AAR doom and Gloom, let's ride their success to a windfall for us all.

Exceeeelllllleennnnt!

Hope we get it back in LA soon. I'm talking my parents into getting satilite radio in their new car so they can hear it. They live in RW hell (Bakersfield, CA).

6. YAY !!!!!!!!!!
i'm so glad to hear this, especially after the hateful thread over the weekend. i swear, we dems are never satisfied. there were posters on a thread this weekend who actually sounded gleeful at the prospect that air america would somehow fail. i realize that people have their own favorite local personalities (who have not been courted by aar), and there are those that think it was a disaster hiring comedians to do political talk, but hey it seems to be working for the MANY, and the FEW will just have to get over it. i couldn't be happier. :toast: :bounce: :grouphug:

44. Let me tell you
it is a shock to the system! I have KPOJ in Portland on all the time and it took me several days to get used to the fact that my blood pressure wasn't going to spike when I hit the AM select on my radio. Especially with Ed Schulz, who is carried in Portland in the afternoon (he's not in the regular AAR line-up)-- I kept expecting him to beak into a rightwing rant because he has kind of a folksy way about him that has been successful on the right. But he's one of us.

I hope you get your local AAR station. It's great!

What happened to "15 new stations in May"? We've only got a week left in the month.

Or "shortly" announcing new affiliations in LA and Chicago? That was over a month ago!

some of us so want this venture to fail. I just don't get it, what's with the circular firing squads? why can't we just be happy that aar is doing well, and with any luck, will be HUGE! go figure

i also hope that this means more $$$ in the way of advertising. i know most corporations are money grubbin' right wing a**holes. but, they also like to make money hand-over-fist. this news should prove that aar is a marketable commodity thereby making it easier to sell air time if they continue to be successful in the marketplace.

20. Lol yourselves.
It was nothing to do with "wanting".

Some of us so want it to succeed that they just convinve themselves that it already HAS.

That's a crock. Fewer stations, missed payrolls (when they claimed to have enough capital to opperate WITHOUT advertising for a couple years), bailing executives/founders, no real advertising, etc. etc. etc.

This post would be the first sign of "success" that I have seen... but we haven't seen the figures yet.

22. You think you see bias, but you are the one biased.
You are immediately jumping to the worst possible conclusions. Air America was a new and unprecendented venture. Of course it was going to stumble. There were stumbles in leadership, stumbles with money, but the leadership seems to have settled, and they didnt lose any talent over bobbling the payrolls. They have the money theyve just messed up on the bookeeping.

For goodness sake, no business this adventerous is going to operate on all cylinders from day one. Heck, few experienced businesses dont have leadership changes/conflicts and bookeeping problems.

Expected stumbles in expected places does not mean "success".

I want to see the numbers. The link provided a couple posts down seems to show pretty dismal numbers, putting them at 24th in NY.

27. Stumbles dont mean success, BUT they dont mean failure either.
Edited on Mon May-24-04 12:44 PM by K-W
Stumbles are simply stumbles. Air America could very well succeed despite stumbles. All companies have stumbles, some succeed, some dont. You cannot, as you have done, argue that they are not succeeding because of those stumbles. By that logic, I dont think you could find a successful corporation anywhere.

No one is arguing that it is a success because of the stumbles. It is a success, and it had stumbles, the two are no inexorably tied.

And as far as that link, it looks like it is pre-air america, when WLIB was simply an ethnic music and talk station.

If it indeed is doing very well in the ratings in NY and other markets, it is a very good sign and a success.

Even though I provided it. It does show an upward trend, it does say it was updated 5/21/04 for the release of NY numbers. Strange stuff.....we may have to wait until the big report is unloaded in July.

I know the big ratings release is in July so I am not sure what to make of this.

33. There is a bigger story to ratings
The numbers released Friday are trend ratings, meaning they are not official, but released by Arbitron as kind of a guide for in between quarterly ratings books. The official Spring book comes out in a month.

The overall rating is 1.4, a composite of all dayparts, and listeners 12+. Most likely, the numbers Franken quoted were a breakdown by either daypart or demographic.

Confusing, innit?

Still, a 1.4 overall is not bad for an upstart network.

Nahhhh...not confusing at all ;-)

"Still, a 1.4 overall is not bad for an upstart network."

I wouldn't know. But if anything, if these are measuring trends, people can be happy because the trend has obviously been an upward one.

37. Sure it's improvement.
Though really just a minor change. The real disappointment is caused more by the original post.

I read they got a "3.4" to limbaugh's "3.2"

THAT would be phenominal. "AA moves up from 1.3 to 1.4 but still ranks 24th in the NY market" would not have drawn much of a posting crowd. Instead I see limbaugh (if I've got the station right) going from 3.3 to 3.7 to 3.9 while AA goes from 1.1 to 1.3 to 1.4

So the opposition is growing faster than AA even though it's a startup? They don't seem to be quaking in their boots right now.

Now when can we hear it all over the USA?

If Rush can be heard screaming all day long, why can't our voices be heard.
This is AMERICA, not Germany during the war years.
