This idea has been floating around for the last few days...if Kerry delays his acceptance he gets more Fed funds, though there is no way right now to see what Kerry will do...

6. trial balloon floated on Friday. When he accepts he is limited to $75

million for the rest of the campaign. Shrub has 5 weeks until the Repub convention to spend as much as he wants. So they floated the idea of not accepting until later so Kerry could still spend the $ he is raising now.

What a load o' crap. All Kerry is doing is ensuring that both he and Bush are spending the same amount of money (no more that $75 million post-convention) during the same amount of time. It's called a "level playing field," so it's no wonder that conservatives are making this an issue.

In retrospect, the FEC should revise its rules so that the spending limits apply from September 1 through the election, regardless of when the candidate accepts the nomination.

10. Did you think I was hostile to this idea? Because I'm not.

I remember when all the back and forth was going on about when to time the conventions, avoiding the Olympics, incumbent gets to go last, etc. and I don't remember anyone mentioning how it would effect campaign finances.

I was responding to the wording of the question itself. I think that what Kerry's doing is a basically good idea and that the Republican bluster on this subject -- and they've pretty much cornered the market on bluster -- won't change anybody's mind.

about those uptight whackos -- they never have a way for you to contact them on their web pages. Kind of the way they want to run government too - brook no opinion.

Well, it is a great pic of the chimp. Must have been taken before he fell off his recumbent stationary bicycle this weekend. And on that note, ever notice that people who ride bikes 17 miles a day don't typically look wider than a door frame or have Vicodin/Oxycontin bloat in their face? The chimp and rush are starting to look related.
