CNN: Nader told Kerry he prefers Gephardt or Edwards for VP.
Heard this on CNN during Judy Woodruff today.

He said either man would be *stable* and dependable, not rocking the boat too much?

I wonder why he didn't suggest "the Kooch" ?? is he selling out er what man !? ;)

1. Hello, MzMolly
After hearing Senator Edwards speak in person at the DFL convention on Saturday, I must say I am all in favor of a Kerry/Edwards ticket. He had the crowd on their feet!
:hi:

2. what chutzpah
why should Nader be talking about VP choices? if he really gave a sh*t about keeping the country from going to hell in a handbag he'd GET OUT OF THE RACE, not spout off about VP options for Kerry.

3. Gep for the unions, Edwards for his "populism"
Both Gep and Edwards have at some points been very critical of "free trade" - like most of Americans - and that's probably why Nader is suggesting them. Notice Nader is NOT suggesting Kucinich - clearly Nader wants to be taken "seriously".

9. Yes but both are *flawed*
less then perfect humaniods? :scared: And, as others mentioned, they supported the war.

Granted I'd support either in a heartbeat. :hi:

14. the Democrats support the war, and Kerry does to
Nader knows this, so in his new "non-spoiler" role he's just trying to get some issues in there. The Democratic Party and the leadership are 100% committed to the War in Iraq and "finishing the job". We're not buildling 14 long term bases there for nothing.

favor of the IWR.

Can we say "The Independents" supported the war because most in fact did? Or, Greens are Union Busters because Ralph Nader busted unions? NO. I would not make such blanket statements personally.

"The Democratic Party and the leadership are 100% committed to the War in Iraq and "finishing the job". We're not buildling 14 long term bases there for nothing."

As you can see this board is full of Democrats who do not/did not support the war. The house and senate i.e. (The Democratic Leadership) are also full of Democrats who did not support the war. And as for the bases in Iraq, that is a Neo-Con plan in the making. One more reason to vote them the H out of office.

If Nader is for pulling out of Iraq in 6 months, he should support Kucinich?

Actually I respect his manner of thinking on this, it simply seems contrary to his typical "democrats are sell outs" meme.

4. Gephardt?
IF Nader is an anti war candidate why would he support a VP who was even more pro-war than Kerry? Gephardt's position was closer to Lieberman's.

20. LOL
There's that or the possibility that he knows he would take more anti-war votes from Kerry if Gep is a running mate. I don't trust him for a second.

Yeah. Right.

17. So, if he now picks either (either would be a good choice)
The wingnuts will go after him as weak because he allowed an opponent to choose his running mate. I know these wingnuts and the way they don't think.

I can see the headlines now:

Nader Picks Kerry VP!!!!!

Tell me again, which party does Nader belong to?

18. He said the same thing yesterday, on 'This Week'
He says both are 'vetted', and have no nasty items that could bite us in the butt about, say, mid-October, and that both have appeal to voting groups who SHOULD support the Dems, or who HAVE traditionally, but not recently : e.g., the 8 million Democrats who voted for Bush in 2000, and the 35% of union voters who did the same thing.

He's quite rational, and I can't argue with his logic.

19. I actually tend to agree with you. I am simpy surprised that he is using
logic. ;)

I would much prefer Edwards to Gep though, not because Gep is a bad choice, but because Edwards is at the top of the VP polls and has been shown to be instrumental in taking NC. Also Edwards is popular among minorities and could really energize people with his populist message.

21. Edwards is MUCH better
He is solidly prochoice.
Gep voted for the PBA ban. He voted to overturn Clinton's veto AND for Bushes version.
